In a terrifying incident, a van carrying foreign laborers overturned and burst into flames, resulting in 4 fatalities and 6 injuries.

Thai Rath reported the incident occurred at around 00:30 on June 1, 2023. Lieutenant Colonel Pongpanont, the deputy superintendent of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, received a report about a sedan accident and subsequent fire on the parallel Asian Highway in the vicinity of Chiang Rak Noi School, Chiang Rak Noi Sub-district, Bang Pa-in District. Local fire department and rescue officials rushed to the scene to provide assistance.

Upon arrival, they found a red Mercedes-Benz van, model Sunyoung, with 7 seats, flipped over and engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly mobilized to extinguish the fire, which took approximately 20 minutes to bring under control.

The vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, and inside, the bodies of 4 deceased individuals were discovered. The charred remains indicated the severity of the blaze.

Furthermore, there were 6 injured individuals, including 3 males and 3 females, who were immediately transported to Noy Hospital (3) and Bang Pa-in Hospital (3) for treatment.

Investigation revealed that all the injured were foreign laborers who had illegally entered the city for employment purposes.

Eyewitnesses in the area described hearing a loud screeching noise from brakes, followed by a crashing sound.

They rushed to the scene and found the overturned van with injured individuals scattered on the road. Soon after, the vehicle caught fire rapidly.

Some individuals managed to escape with the help of bystanders, totaling 3 people, as the van was at risk of exploding.

However, the fire spread quickly, making it impossible for others to provide assistance. Rescue workers interviewed the injured individuals, who confirmed that they were all foreign laborers. They had fled to the city to find work.

Preliminary analysis suggests that the car involved in the accident was likely speeding. Upon reaching the accident site, which was a section of the road branching off to Phaholyothin Road, the vehicle lost control, causing it to flip over and ignite.

The deceased victims, comprising 1 male and 3 females, need to be further identified to determine their nationalities.

Authorities will coordinate with relevant agencies to ascertain the victims' nationalities, including potential Thai drivers involved in the incident.

They were foreigners and illegal in the country.
Case closed.
As soon as their nationality is known, Thai authorities will send the bill to that country.
