Neighbors Clash Over Roadside Parking, Municipality Gears Up for Inspection

In a recent development, neighbors involved in a roadside "boxing match" have agreed to demolish the car garage and plant pots obstructing the road.

 

However, there is still a dispute over the extension that encroaches on the electric poles, with the village chairman unable to resolve the issue due to widespread opposition. As a result, the Bang Ku Rat Municipality is preparing to send officials to conduct an inspection and enforce the law, reported Thai Rath.

 

The issue came to public attention when a Facebook page called "Wish to be Famous Part6" posted a complaint about neighbors constructing a car garage on the road in front of their homes in Bang Ku Rat Municipality.

 

According to the post, the municipality had issued warnings but failed to enforce the law effectively, possibly due to alleged connections between the homeowner and local authorities or influential figures in the community. The incident occurred within a village located in Bang Ku Rat sub-district, Bang Bua Thong district, Nonthaburi province.

 

On June 5, 2566, at 5:30 PM, a journalist visited the house opposite the disputed location, house number 88/4, to interview the homeowner, referred to as "Golf" (a pseudonym). Golf, a 40-year-old resident of house number 62/227, resides in a two-story townhouse and was questioned about the complaint.

 

Golf explained that he had been living in the house since 1995 and built the car garage in 1998. However, the garage was not constructed as a permanent structure. The opposite house belonged to his elderly grandfather, and it had been vacant for approximately 3-4 years until a new owner purchased it three years ago.

 

Regarding the complaint, Golf stated that he had received a notification from the municipality about the plant pots and the car garage. He admitted that the plant pots were a violation and agreed to remove them.

 

However, he pointed out that the homeowner of the opposite house had made unauthorized extensions, including encroaching on the electric poles. Consequently, he believed that both parties should be responsible for removing the unauthorized structures. They had arranged for a contractor to demolish the structures simultaneously.

 

Amorn Tientae, a 52-year-old village chairman, visited the problematic car garage to assess the situation. He explained that addressing issues related to roadside constructions and parking areas was challenging due to the lack of specific regulations.

 

Additionally, unauthorized alterations were prevalent throughout the village since his predecessor's tenure. After the previous village owner completed the construction, they provided funds and submitted documents to establish a legal entity under the municipality's jurisdiction, ensuring proper maintenance.

 

However, this particular village did not establish such an entity, and its management fell on the residents themselves, who collected monthly fees for maintenance and performed self-repairs for road maintenance or streetlight malfunctions.

 

Amorn further mentioned that unauthorized alterations were rampant in the village, but the car garage in question had encroached excessively onto the road, requiring legal discussions or the involvement of the municipality to mediate between the conflicting parties. As the village chairman, his responsibilities primarily focused on streetlight maintenance and cleanliness.

 

Following a failed attempt to reach an agreement, Golf and the opposing neighbor entered the latter's house, and they collectively removed all the plant pots. However, the removal of the roofing structure remained pending due to the lack of appropriate tools. Consequently, the Bang Ku Rat Municipality will send officials to inspect the site once again on the following day.
