Thai Government Says First Phase of Thailand to China High-speed Rail to be Completed in 2026

The government has reported that the first phase of the high-speed railway is scheduled to be completed by 2026. The first phase is part of the railway project that will connect Bangkok to the city of Kunming in China.

 

Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri has disclosed details on the high-speed railway construction that will help boost the Thai economy and tourism industry.

 

According to the spokesperson, the first phase of the railway will have six stops from Bangkok, Bangsue Grand Station, Don Muang, Ayutthaya, Saraburi, and Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Please note:

This first phase to be completed by 2026 will link standard gauge HST tracks between Bangkok and Korat. It will be many years away before Bangkok is linked to Kunming. Contracts are still being discussed along with land purchases and environmental issues. Completion of the HST from Korat via Khon Kaen to Nong Khai and across the Mekong on a massive new bridge to Vientiene is a long, long way into the future. From the map below it is predicted HST will reach Nong Khai in 2029.

To be clear, the 2026 phase links Bangkok with Khorat. This is a very worthy development.

 

Of course 2026 is unrealistic. 2036 is more probable.

Ouch. Heard of few people buying up land to benefit from the Hua Hin high speed train.

2032, at the very earliest, is a long time to wait for the return on investment...

 

On a separate note, what's the definition of "high speed" for this network ?
