NATO has launched what it’s calling its "largest deployment exercise" in history, aimed at sending a message to countries like Russia that it "is ready to defend every inch of Allied territory."

The two-week long "Air Defender" exercise is set to run until June 23 and will involve 25 countries, 10,000 personnel and 250 aircraft, according to NATO.

"Air Defender is necessary because we live in a more dangerous world," NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu said in a statement. "As we face the biggest security crisis in a generation, we stand united to keep our countries and our people safe."

"Air Defender sends a clear message that NATO is ready to defend every inch of Allied territory," she added.

Russia has not once in its 30+ years recent history threatened a NATO country. What they've always said was stop expanding NATO toward our borders, or else. And they were patient with the or else until recently. Unfortunately, Ukraine was a red line and guess what happened.

Now, NATO is showing off its air forces - at a safe distance from Ukrainian air space. Smart. Meanwhile, the massive Ukrainian counter-offensive has taken grandma Ponomarenko's vegetable garden and run over several birch trees 20km south of Bakhmut.

Ukraine should be free to join any military or economic alliance it chooses. That's what happens in the free world.

NATO only exists to deter Russia's western expansionism. Ukraine had every reason to fear Russia and want to join NATO. Don't forget that Putin ridiculed accusations that he was about to invade Ukraine.

No Ukraine isn't. Just as Cuba, a sovereign country, didn't get to platform Russian missiles at the threat of nuclear retaliation by Kennedy. Superpowers have their security zones. It's what happens in the real world.

Ukraine did not threaten Russia with US or NATO arms. Cuba did threaten the US with nuclear weapons which had a single purpose.

Ukraine joining NATO would mean nuclear missiles stationed there, given that US tactical nukes are already located in NATO members Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Turkey. And those missiles would have exactly one target.

Incidentally, it really doesn't matter what you or I or the US or Nato thinks if Russia should feel threatened. It's what Putin thinks that matters. And they are finding that out the hard way.

Russia should now feel threatened. Putin started a war. That's what happens in the real world. He had no reason to feel threatened before the war. He simply believed he would win before NATO could act. He didn't realize that Ukrainians weren't Russia's brothers.
