Pattaya, Thailand-Pattaya City held a meeting yesterday, June 13th, 2023, to discuss a plan to open up Dongtan Beach Road, connecting Jomtien Beach to Pratumnak Soi 5, 24-hours a day to vehicle traffic.

The road has long been closed overnight to vehicle traffic but as the area has grown exponentially over the past year or so since the Covid-19 pandemic, especially the number of businesses in the Pratumnak Soi 5 area, Pattaya City Officials feel it is time to end the overnight ban and open up the street at all hours.

Shame, it was one of the nicest areas to take a stroll that the whole town offers..... with traffic it will be like walking soi Buakhao.

Is it shrinking at night?
It opened at daytime, so how being opened at night becomes more dangerous?

All weekend clogged and filled with exhaust fume.

They are braindead.

What effort is it with a car going uphill to Prathumnak and then down the Soi?

I reckon the real reason for this decision is that the BIB checkpoints on Thappraya are getting too busy and blocking traffic.  So they open up the Dongtan road and voila, another excuse for a checkpoint, and dilute the Thappraya traffic flow.

That is a walkway.

In order to relieve congestion on Pattaya streets, the next proclamation will legalize driving on all the city's sidewalks. Watch out for tour buses!

Not sure what they are talking about here, they have got it the wrong way round. I've lived at this location for the last 10 years and the procedure was always - road closed and gated off during the day and then opened up at night.

During the Covid situation all of that went out of the window and they didn't quite know what to do with the road opening times. I suspect that has contributed to this decision.
