Parking Drama Unfolds at Ratchaburi Hospital: Driver Fined for Violating Traffic Rule

An incident recently sparked off drama in the parking area of Ratchaburi Hospital when a local resident, identified as Chokchai, parked his pickup truck incorrectly.

The disagreement escalated when he argued with local police officer Wichian, who was attempting to explain the correct parking rules to him. Chokchai documented the encounter on video and posed a question: what specific law was he breaking with his parking technique?

The incident took place on Sombun Kool Street, in front of Ratchaburi Hospital, within the municipal district. Chokchai had parked against the flow of traffic on the right side of the road and was subsequently charged with violating traffic signage and a no-parking zone, reported Siam Rath.

Officer Wichian recounted that he initially approached the driver because the vehicle was not parked correctly, close to the left curb. Chokchai, who was in the car, asked why he was wrong in parking there.

In response to Wichian's explanation, he filmed himself with his phone, which surprised the officer. The incorrect parking could lead to potential accidents due to visibility issues for oncoming and following cars. The vehicle was parked in a dangerous manner, increasing the risk of an accident when pulling out.

In light of the events, Wichian issued a ticket to Chokchai. However, normally in such cases, the vehicle would be wheel-clamped. But due to the location near Ratchaburi Hospital, frequented by people from other provinces seeking medical attention, this measure was avoided to prevent potential complications.

Despite Wichian's efforts to explain, Chokchai was defiant and repeatedly asked what rule he had violated. Even though it was uncomfortable issuing the ticket, Wichian was confident he had carried out his duties effectively.

Given that Ratchaburi Hospital is a busy place, alternative parking is available across the street in the provincial sports ground, which can accommodate hundreds of vehicles, with security personnel on duty.

As this particular road has a no-parking rule on the left side, the public is requested to adhere to traffic rules.

This location frequently witnesses such incidents due to its connection with numerous government offices.

I am wondering where in Thailand you can park your car ... Yes there is parking space at big shopping malls and airports, but near hospitals?? schools? clinics in a city?, or where ever.. If there is space they put a stall with fruit or food on it, and they don't allow you to park in front of them as it " cost them customers" Overloaded streets with cars and motorcycles parked on both sides which makes the roads too small and as Thai people don't like to walk a bit they even stop in the middle of the road to buy things in the stalls..Instead of builings they should built some decent parkings even underground ones.. It would solve a lot of problems

Almost anywhere if you leave the handbrake off.

So was he parked on the left or right........

If it was signed as such and he was in the wrong then I am struggling to understand why he couldn't understand...........

he parked on the wrong side and facing the wrong direction. In other words his vehicle was facing against the flow of traffic ( see the picture in OP), which believe it or not is illegal, even here in Thailand. The thing that surprises me with this is that Officer Wichian actually knew the law in relation to this incident.

Yes I had a mate who got done outside a hotel in Hua Hin for that some years ago.

OK - so nothing to do with any posted, or otherwise, parking restrictions.

The hospital has a parking lot but you are very lucky to find a open spot in it.  And as mentioned in the article the side of the road next to the hospital is all marked no parking.

I would say it is fairly common for people to park in this manner though.  Usually nothing happens to them.  As with most traffic laws.

Because he haS been doing this for s long time no one ever said anything.  The fact that he decided to film as he was right shows indicates it he doesn't have a clue.  Official should have asked for his license and registration if most likely not updated if it was also shows they learn nothing from obtaining a license especially when all you do is drive around in a circle lije a monkey.
