Years before he said he was running for president to “defeat the cult of gender ideology,” Donald Trump welcomed and praised the inclusion of transgender women in the Miss Universe pageant.

In since unreported radio and television interviews from spring and summer 2012, Trump celebrated the interest in a 23-year-old transgender woman named Jenna Talackova participating in a Canadian pageant. He then later effusively praised the winner of the Miss USA pageant, Olivia Culpo, for saying that transgender women should be allowed to compete.

After long questioning the idea of "woke" - rightly saying that no one can explain what it is - he's been trying to use the woke thing against DeSantis in the past few weeks. And he somewhat clumsily has been mentioning bathrooms and sports competition. But DeSantis has tanked, so trump may not continue unless opponents go hard on woke?

 

No one expects consistency on policy/thoughts/ideas from trump. So hearing he may not have been anti-trans before, and now may be, is hardly breaking news.

He is widely reported to be a misogynist so of course he would be okay with men to competing against women in their competitions.

Or, he's like some of us older folks who remember Renee Richards, and maybe it's just not that big a deal? I mean the World didn't end in 1977 now did it?

 

Repubs feel like they "lost" on civil rights, and gay rights/marriage, so their last stand is trans people, I guess. No one left after that to attack, marginalize and disenfranchise. OK, Immigrants, for sure.

So, according to your explanation, it isn't that Trump is a hypocrite, but rather that he hates roughly half of humanity.

If his lips are moving he's either lying or contradicting himself. Usually it's both. One of the most dangerous, deranged and demented individuals not either locked up in prison cell or a mental facility. A serious and malevalent menace to civil society and needs to be detained.
