My GF and i had intended to apply for a Fiance/settlement Visa at the begining of next month, after i have sent her all the documents needed.

I will be going to Thailand at the end of August early september and hopefully after a successfull application i will bring her back with me, we had planned for me to arrive after she gets an interview date.

We are now considering marrying in Thailand instead to save on the FLR, we were going to marry here in December.

I realise we cannot apply for the Spouse Visa until after we marry,i had planned a 2/3 week visit, so really my question is would there be enough time to marry, submit the application and expect a descision in this short period of time.

All thoughts welcome :o

My answer is "I think so" :D

2 weeks possible but with a fair wind and the gods smiling, 3 weeks a bit more likely - I guess on these sorts of tight timescales that Bank Holidays (UK and Thai) would be a factor to consider...........

We got married in May, only at an Amphur - done within an hour of arriving at Bangrak (BKK)......hitched 8 days after me arriving in BKK, but includes a weekend and us not being in big hurry doing the docs (could have done some things all same day) and then not doing the marriage immediately we could (I think one day I overslept :D) . I am pretty sure that we could have got married within 3 working days (maybe even 2?), if I had got better organised / got out of bed earlier every day :D

We have not submitted our SV application yet, but IF we had had all our papers together, then as far as I am aware it is simply a case of dropping them off, certainly over within the day / a couple of hours. But sods law I am guessing their is always something last minute to get certified / copied - but no reason why this could not be done at the same time as faffing around / waiting for the wedding docs.

From what I have gathered from reading this site, if it is a simple yes then you could well have an answer within a week / 10 days. If an interview is needed then I beleive that the request would be within this sort of time period, albeit the interview date much later (I have heard no recent mention of inteview waiting periods)...........Not sure on the refusal timescale.

Please do NOT rely on "my" timescales for the SV :o ...........and I am happy to stand corrected..........

If your fiance/wife has to go for an interview, as mine has to it takes about 6-8 weeks after you have submitted yor application. I don't know what proportion of applications have to have an interview someone else may have the stats but I think it's quite high. It seems from other posts that if you don't need an interview it only takes a few days to get a possitive answer.

Phill,

I have just returned from doing exactly this, we got married during the first week of my stay.

Our settlement visa application was prepared to the point that I could do no more in england, I took the documents with me and completed the rest there.

We spent most of the two weeks I was there getting translations done and certified, changing names on her passport(not essential for the visa app but we done it any way) and Id card, Tb test etc and perfecting the details.

Job done in two weeks, dont expect an answer from the embassy in this time though, but It can be submitted and then the waiting game begins.

As long as you are prepared to get your ass out of bed and get this stuff prepared properly then you can do it, however this can be difficult when the allure of the beach or cold beer is within reach!

Good luck

I'm having the exact same difficulties right now!

Catching up on lost time and meeting all the relo's etc.

Getting things done but the distractions are many.

Above all I'm enjoying being here!

Cheers

Mark,

Just to clarify for my future info, how long after you submitted the SV did you wait? and what did you get (Yes / No / Interview)or are you still waiting? and if so how long already........

Me I am betting on an Interview being needed, but I would like to hang around just in case she is refused.............or to party if it is a straight ok............but not sure how practical this will be for me.......
