I don't see this as anything new. Up until the early 20's Thailand had a departure tax of 300 baht which was collected for international departures via booths at the airports. They are merely reinventing their own wheel.

I believe it was 500. I don't see that went away.

Border passes, I can only think of people transporting goods between Thailand and Cambodia, Thailand and Laos etc. or people that have business over the border and returning the same day as in , not tourists.

What about exit-rentry permits for those on one year extensions?

It will be very telling if they cannot simply add it into the online purchase BUT as they have a criteria - those with work permits are exempt.

I know of no way that could be verified online prepurchase. Therefore, I believe it will either be

1) all farangi (wp or not)

OR

2) a  staffed kiosk system pre immigration or prior to exiting duty free zone. They will take cards and all currencies.

Dunno,

But I would be interested to know myself as I am on one.

Many board members think it wont happen as too difficult to implement.
