Prawit Tipped As Pita’s Rival For PM

PALANG PRACHARATH LEADER PRAWIT Wongsuwan will likely be named prime minister in rivalry against Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat, partisan sources said Friday (June 30).

Prawit, the leader of the fourth largest elected party, will likely compete in a sustained effort to rise to power though he may have only 188 MPs on his side, compared to 312 in support of Pita, the leader of the No.1 largest party, as long as senators could potentially play a decisive role toward either side’s victory, the sources said.

The military-designed constitution requires a partisan candidate for head of government to secure votes of support from more than half the combined total of MPs and senators or at least 376 votes. All 250 senators were handpicked by the Palang Pracharath leader and de facto Ruam Thai Sang Chart boss Prayut Chan-o-cha following the 2014 coup.

The the barrel is shaken, the scum will always rise to the top.

And then what? You have a PM that has a minority in the house. I don't see how that will result in a working government. Plus they'd risk civil unrest because the election would have been largely meaningless.

  • Popular Post

This would be a massive travestry of justice and not in the slightest what the people voted for, I can only hope that the population show their feelings in the strongest possible way.

Wonder if they predict a riot cos I do ????

partisan.....to whos policies ? yours or the ones who the people voted for ?

A partisan is a committed member of a political party. In multi-party systems, the term is used for persons who strongly support their party's policies and are reluctant to compromise with political opponents.

so the vote didn't really matter did it ? it's either our way or no way.

democracy at its finest. what a farce.

Even if the clown was to succeed, in may 2024 the rigged senate is done, MF move no confidence, re election and landslide win for MF.

But this corrupt old fool and his mates will do anything for a few more months, or worse still are they trying to incite unrest to pull the guns out again…if they are I think this time it could backfire on them very badly.

here’s preying sanity prevails and Pita gets the numbers ????

70 million or 700 million makes no difference when the senate has the fix.

Possibly they have done their number crunching, and reckon that with the police and military available to them (remember April's draft intake will have just about finished their training) they can withstand the inevitable protests.  Once he is installed as Prime Minister, his government will use the inevitable widespread protests as the excuse for the inevitable state of emergency, and take wide ranging powers to rule bypassing parliament. They desperately need to hang on for a year until they have their new set of senators ( who will probably look remarkably like the old set of senators!

It will all hinge on whether they can weather the inevitable storm. I doubt that they can.

This would be nice. But how do you scope with 250 senators - who were NOT choosen by the Thai people and have a significant impact who is nominated to be PM - maybe regardless of what the people want ?

They will appoint a new Senate. Rinse and repeat.

It will (for them) have the great advantage of keeping the appointing of senators and the holding of elections in step.

Perhaps a constitutional amendment to introduce a fixed term parliament, so that elections will always take place a safe period after a new Senate is appointed. It would tidy things up a bit!

I wouldn't assume he has 188 MPs on his side.

A minority government wouldn't survive long before being forced to call an election. Then those MPs who voted for him may fear for their seats.

I can't see the Democrats and many Bhumjaithai MPs going along with this.

Unless PT changed sides

The people of Thailand will be on the streets if Prawit is elected! Very sad!

  • Popular Post

This man is an absolute bottom of the barrel pick. He does not have one nanogram of leadership ability, there are very few who like him and it would just be a continuation of the oppressive, regressive, backward policies of the past 9 dreadful years.

The people have spoken. The army games can continue, but at great peril to the institution, which has already lost any prestige or honor it may have once had. It is now considered a den of thieves, despised by the masses.

If there is anywhere Prawit truly belongs, it is either in prison, or in exile. Not in politics.

I doubt that very much. Apathy is generally the order of the day here.

Well if Pita ever manages to get in that needs to be his no.1 job! Dismantle all that nonsense and make Thailand into a truly democratic country. Sacking of the entire military top brass would be No.2. Making a law that forbids any military coups and those found having started or taking part in one facing the death penalty should be no.3.

As if that will ever happen! Pigs have a greater chance of flying! Ahhh well no country is perfect and all democracy’s are terribly flawed especially over time.
