US military investigates after soldier crosses into North Korea

2. Private 2nd Class Travis King was being escorted back to the US for disciplinary reasons before he apparently gave his escort the slip at Incheon Airport
3. He joined a tour group at the border where he was seen laughing before running into the North
4. "I thought it was a bad joke at first, but when he didn't come back, I realised it wasn't a joke," a witness said later
5. The incident is being investigated by US Forces Korea, a senior American commander said
6. The US military has had no contact with the soldier since he crossed the border, the commander confirmed

Seems there was an altercation in a nightclub. Likely not the fault of the Private as the other person did not want to press charges. But seemingly he was out in a police car afterwards, which might explain his trying to get out of it. Hence the claim of kicking the back door of the police car. 
As to escaping, he was only escorted up to customs. He didn’t bother to catch the flight but instead the next day went on this tour. Perhaps feeling wrongly treated throughout.
