As the interim government is tasked with keeping peace and stability in the country, he wishes that all sides express their political opinions peacefully, within the rule of law and without violence….They should not destroy the economy, trade or investment. It is likely that, by the end of this year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand will reach 35 million,” she said.

Interesting semantics, they no longer see themselves as "caretakers" but as an "interim government".

They perhaps anticipate being a presence for the foreseeable future, and are starting to react to/moving to deal with protests and street opposition.

Will the mantra be " opposition protests are a threat to the economy"?

And watch out, it sounds like he is having his armour shone and charger prepared by loyal serfs!

Outgoing Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha appealed for calm on Thursday,

Bit like Nero saying 'Don't worry it will burn itself out' !

A post advocating harm and a reported overly negative baiting troll post has been removed

Then dissolve the 250 senate allied to the Junta, with immediate effect, so that true democracy can be practised in Thailand.

So what do the number of tourist have to do with Pita being torpedoed? Not much.....Just a feel good distraction....

Uncle Prayut is selflessly trying to save the country yet again...lol

Even though I like Pitta he tprpedoed himself by not getting rid of those shares. The same thing happened what 5 years ago and he thought he was above it all, who knows what he was thinking or not thinking

His primary concern is to prevent any faction from breaching the law and to maintain peace, urging everything to proceed according to proper procedures.

Proper procedures? yeh, right!!

I wonder how calm the folk on the Titanic were when it hit the iceberg.

Those supporting the Move Forward party should do a fair bit of research about how and who they are backed and created.  They are puppets for the US.
Im not saying the previous government were great, but I am saying that the US backed puppets aim was to spread more Western obedience and ‘democracy’ to Thailand to curb Chinas influence in the region.

They look nice and shiny, but western influence is the LAST thing Thailand wants.

We all move here to escape that.

And if you want to talk about government corruption, at least in Thailand it benefits everyone from the top down to the street level cop… in the west it only favours the powerful.

As another poster said, " You created this", now you want calm. Protests will be another excuse for the military to take over again, "We need to keep the country stable." Yeah right, stable like Myanmar.

I hope you are right, I would not like to live in a new Myanmar

He thinks he's relevant, and that his words influence people.

He isn't, and they don't.

No one is listening to this retired General. He should just move on to the Privy Council.

This bloke is a total knob.

Everything that is happening today is because of him and his political designs. And like a true 'leader' he resigns from politics 48 hours before the poop hit the fan. To avoid any responsibility.

Prayut know this. History will not remember you kindly or fondly.

Age of propaganda.

1. Nothing you do or say means anything. You have zero credibility.

2. You said you would honor the results of the election. You lied, yet again.

3. The ridiculous senate you installed, has voted against the will of the people and deliberately abstained in a most cowardly and dastardly fashion. All bets are off. You cannot attempt to steal an election, and then ask for calm. What kind of kool-aid have you been drinking?

4. The nation cannot wait for you to depart. It cannot happen soon enough. The damage you have caused with your leadership is immeasurable.

5. History classes down the road will teach about your administration. The title of the course might be "12 reasons the army should never run the country".

Maybe Prayut and the Jurassic Park presently running the show should not call but listen - for a change ????

\So a procedure is to roll the tanks in the middle of the night, take over in a coup, fatten your and your cronies wallets, appoint a bunch of unelected senators and rig the system to insure that you can stay in power, disregarding the votes of the public.....i guess i missed the part about where staging a coup and seizing power was " to proceed according to proper procedures"

The last thing Prayut and his cronies want is "calm".

When they have protests and disruption, it's their chance to roll the tanks out again. A bunch of <deleted> dinosaurs that should have fallen into their appointed tar-pits decades ago.

It should never have come to this had this guy not manipulated the constitution so that it would always go the military’s way . Democracy is no longer in the Thai vocabulary what’s the point of having further elections under the current rules .

They would have got him over something else if it wasn’t the shares you need to wake up the current regime don’t understand the word democracy  another candidate will come forward and will fail until the senators have got there own way they want a poodle as the next PM

Whatever happens, as foreigners, we have no right to vote or interfere. This is Thailand and while it may be "home" we remain guests and subject to the law and rules that govern our stay. If you have a business here, there is no choice but to adapt and go with the political flow and continue to make the most of it and enjoy your life here. You may have an opinion but that is all you have. The Thai's have to do the rest. So to rephrase Uncle Tu ... Stay Calm and Carry on. You can't change anything.
