Fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will return to Thailand on August, landing at Don Muang International Airport, his youngest daughter Paetongtarn wrote on her FBpage Wed.

Thaksin was ousted in a coup in 2006 and he has since lived in self-imposed exile.

During his absence, Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions sentenced him in absentia to a total of 12 years imprisonment in four cases.

  • Yes. Both should be given re-trials. The treachery of the junta has been exposed by the egregious treatment of Thanathorn and Pita and there will be sympathy for the them to come home.

His timing is good.

Complete political disarray.

He will be out on bail immediately to orchestrate the resurrection.

Thaksin Shinawatra will return to Thailand

So he lied at least 20 times about that and now we should believe it? 555!

Come back now, you don't need a visa. You don't even need a passport. And you don't need any money.

You will be transferred to your new shelter. They will feed you. And all for free.

What are you waiting for, coward?

Thaksin faces 12 years in prison upon his return from exile

election-2023-Thaksin-Shinawatra_web.png

Self-exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will face a total of 12 years in prison, in three outstanding cases, if he returns to Thailand on August 10th, as announced by his daughter, Paetongtarn, after 15 years abroad.

The cases are:

-The 3 and 2-digit lottery project of the Government Lottery Office, issued during his administration, in which he was found guilty of malfeasance in office and of violation of ethical conduct by a prime minister by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders. He was sentenced to two years in prison.

-The granting of a 4 billion baht loan to the Myanmar government by the Exim Bank of Thailand, for the purchase of equipment and services from Shin Satellite Company in which he and his associates held the majority stake. He was sentenced to three years in prison without suspension by the Supreme Court.

Fake as always. August 10, 2028?

It must be hard for him not to be in the news for a month or two.

Maybe he should invite his grandkids to the desert and play with them. Isn't that what he says he wants?

The Immigration Police will arrest Thaksin once he arrives at Don Mueang Airport since there is an outstanding warrant for him, said Corrections Department director-general Aryut Sinthoppan.

According to normal procedures, he will then be transferred to court to request an order for his detention before being sent to prison, most likely to the Bangkok Remand Prison, Aryut said.

Thaksin is facing up to 10 years in jail for multiple cases in which he was convicted by the Supreme Court. He said the charges were politically motivated.

So maybe the deal has been done for a Pheu Thai government. Government in place in early August. Thaksin back on the 10th.

  • Popular Post

I hear he's sharing a cell with Aem 'cynide.'

To raise false hopes among Pheua Thai party members (farmers) to put them on the Pita-train?  (Farmers will not benefit from Pita is my guess.)

But I am no expert on this.

Happy Birthday Mr T

hope you kiss the tarmac again come august 10

that was such an iconic moment

He is stirring the pot. What does he know? Perhaps he could have something up his sleeve once he gets infront of the mass of cameras on home turf. Good time to drop a bombshell on other parties or individuals that may create national outcry, discredit and investigation? He is not without a plan.

Difficult to believe he would leave his life of luxury and return to live in a Thai jail for 12 years.

Sure he misses Thai food etc., but why would he give up his life of luxury?

Wants to be with / play with his grandchildren. He can't do that if he's in jail. And they will all be late  teenagers or older when he gets out, and there's cases not yet heard so the length of time he's locked up locked up could be even longer.

Why would he give up his life of luxury and his family regularly visiting his abroad?

Or is he broke, can't afford the rent in Dubai any more? Or is he under pressure from the Dubai leaders to move out?

Strange...

there will be a VIP escort as they do for the Chinese and bring him home... No problems, believe me and he don't need to go to jail.. Nobody cares anymore in Thailand same as the Red Bull heir

Thaksin will not come home to go to jail. At the most a day or two.

No, the junta are allowing him back because they face a far greater threat, MF.

Thaksin will have to support Pravit's party and possibly Prayuth's in exchange for his freedom.  Note PT have already announced  they will not nominate Pita as a PM candidate again.

The junta are banking on Thaksin's popularity to save their skins. A few populist policies to prop up their votes.

Will it work ? He's never been a good  speaker and listening to him last night he really sounded old, no match for the youthful Pita?

Will PT's embrace of the coup leaders damage the party?

Hopefully otherwise there is truly no hope for democracy in LOS
