THREE suspects were arrested after police found over 32 kilogrammes of heroin hidden in hollowed out wooden crates in which jade stone statues and other auspicious objects were packed for shipment to Australia, Amarin TV said today (July 27).

Pol. Maj. Gen. Montree Thetkhan, chief of Crime Suppression Division police, said the heroin was found after a tip-off that a large amount of drugs is heading overseas.

Investigation led to the discovery of 831 packets of heroin, weighing over 32 kilogrammes, hidden in hollowed-out crates in which jade stone statues and other auspicious items were packed. It is worth approximately 10 million baht in Thailand but the value would rise to 100 million baht if it had reached Australia.

As long as the demand is there, the huge profits and some corrupt officials, crooks will keep on trying in anyway the can.

next week, Singapore is about to execute a women guilty of importing 30 grams Heroin and a man importing 50 grams, i wish Thailand and other countries will follow suit, that will minimise the trade of drugs considerably.

In terms of prison conditions, this 77 year old man is probably fortunate he was picked up in Melbourne not Thailand.

An elderly New Zealand man has been charged with attempting to import about 2kg of heroin through Melbourne Airport.

The 77-year-old man arrived in Australia from Thailand on Wednesday and was remanded in custody.

Australian Border Force officers allegedly found white powder in the lining of the man’s suitcase, which was tested and returned a positive result for heroin.

The pensioner could spend the rest of his life in prison as the police charged the man with importing a “marketable quantity of a border-controlled substance”, for which the maximum penalty is life imprisonment.
