A tragic incident occurred yesterday at the elevated bridge crossing the Lam Sali intersection in Bangkok when an iron plate fell from the crane, claiming one life and inflicting injuries on two other workers. Events unfolded today at 1.50am as the labourers were working on the bridge.

The bridge, located over the Bangkapi intersection, is currently under construction. Among the victims were 26 year old Netipong, 46 year old Duangjai, and 32 year old Anant. Anant suffered a severe head injury that led to his unfortunate demise while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The workers were using two cranes to remove the iron plate located underneath the bridge. As they were attaching the sling to the plate, it abruptly fell, hitting the workers on the crane and those at the site. The area of the accident was on Sereethai Road, where the Lam Sali intersection bridge is being repaired. The iron plates were removed as part of this task.

At the time of the accident, traffic from Sereethai Road inbound was blocked, preventing further mishaps. After the incident, the workers cleared the debris and normal traffic resumed.

City Hall suspends construction of Bangkapi flyover after fatal accident

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has ordered the suspension of work on the construction of a flyover at Bangkok’s Bangkapi intersection, after a fatal accident late last night (Wednesday) in which one worker was killed and two others were injured.

It was reported that a huge metallic sheet fell from the flyover as workers tried to lift it, with the help of two cranes, to reinforce the underside of the flyover.

BMA spokesman Aekvarunyoo Amrapala today blamed the contractor for not following the correct construction procedure, adding that they have been ordered to increase safety measures at the construction site, to ensure that such an accident will not be repeated.

If it fell it must have been in the Air What posistion were they in attempting to put a sling around it. First Golden rule neve stand beneath a suspend load. Poor health and safety here I think. Bet it wasn't Barrier taped off so no one can come close to being struck if an object is suspended that could cause injury or Death. or either.

The prolific use of these iron plates on Bangkok construction sites causes no end of needless disruption and potential catastrophic damage to vehicles and injury to persons. Seems they are routinely spuriously placed in roadways causing all sorts of havoc ranging from extreme amounts of impossible-to-mitigate noise (as they are always warped, for some reason) to the pummeling of vehicle undercarriages and tires - for no justifiable reason whatsoever. When people complain to city officials, they are often removed with absolutely zero impact to the goings-on of the construction site. They simply move them “around the corner” for others to enjoy and continue on with whatever tasks are scheduled for that day. Maddening, really.

I am sure the victims family will be adequately compensated, but then again I also believe the moon is made of cheese

If you can be bothered to read the full story, before jumping in to comment, the family will get nearly 2m b.

They need to be sat down in a classroom, with proper training for crane operators and riggers/groundman vids and pass a written and practical test like in the real world. but tit.

A new Green Cross Safety First sign twice the size of the original will be erected and illuminated at night.

what they need and must enforce is a site induction for ALL employees on that particular site.

Covering basic health & Safety,  Correct PPE on any Construction Sites. Failing to adhere will lead to instant dismissal for breaching health & Safety rules on that site.

May sound silly to some but never mind.

Feel like a GoFundMe page should be made for the deceased man's and the injured's families.

Not sure if they will get any due compensation or coverage of medical costs ?

When I'm driven around Bangkok I have reason to be very nervous when traveling under these construction projections.

Far too many major accidents.

But there are signs safety first
