Being forced to buy a VPN (title edited)

Nobody is forcing you to buy a VPN, it's your decision whether you want one or not.

If you want to download from torrenting/streaming sites, and their price of entry is purchasing a VPN from them, seems fair enough to me.

There's so much free stuff around on YouTube I don't bother.

So I could possibly die without one?????

Identity theft will make you want to die though.

Seat belts can also prevent serious injuries.

You can also get lucky many times without using condom, but not forever.

Opinions, like noses, everyone has one.

Up to you.

I've been here longer than the OP, and I haven't got a VPN.

Tried it once, dragged stuff down, so got rid of it.

Though my IP address is shown a long way from me, and that changes, too....????

Why did you try it?

Did you have a reason?

Did you pay for it? Did you do it just because other people did?

Nobody wears a seat belt for fun. But you really can't buckle up when you see an accident coming. Why would anybody waste money on insurance of any kind?

Of course the encrypt/decrypt takes resources and time, but I get 65 mbps on mine. Fast enough for the girls I go with.

Again, I won't try to justify using a VPN.

You get it or you don't.

Up to you.

ISP are by law required to keep logs for many months, so if someone really wants to pursue, they request the court to reveal who used that IP on that certain moment.

That said, I doubt they will ever bother, since they would have to make thousands of court cases, and they cost money, but always better be safe than sorry.

Decent premium VPN's cost next to nothing these days.

If you want a real vpn then your going to pay about $100/yr for it.

After 3 years, Express wanted $116 to renew. NORD was $90 for two years.

Guess which I am using!

OK, NORD is not as user friendly as Express, but does the same job, and hopefully will do tomorrow afternoon allowing BBC TV to be watchable.

Why do I need to use a VPN in Thailand? Been downloading here for 14 years without one.

And some people have been staying in Thailand without a visa for 14 years but it doesn't mean they don't need one...

Even on the latest Mac OS you can switch on to VPN, it is built in.

I'll take your word for that.

But of course a VPN has two ends. The first, your device, encrypts the data. Somewhere it has to be decrypted and connected to the web.

Maybe apple has its own server farms for this. Otherwise it's useless and I don't trust apple farther than I could throw their corporate headquarters.

It's the far end connection that you must put your trust in. Choose that very carefully. If you don't pay for the service how do you think they can offer it without monetizing their clients in some way? Server farms in dozens of different countries have costs to pay. If Google offers a free VPN do you believe they don't get something (hint: your data) from it?

I have both express VPN and Trust.Zone on different devices.

I totally agree with you even though I've been using Apple for 25 years.

In addition, I am aware that all trafic goes through my provider at all times...

But I don't intend to commit a crime or view child porn so I'm not too concerned.

And with my Apple ID, Apple knows enough about me, after all, I ordered all my stuff through Apple website.

Never buy what you can get for free Windows free VPN addons, Android always a dozen free working apps Apple who cares ????

I tend to think the opposite, if you can get it for free, then there is a catch. This is even more true when it comes to free VPNs. It's reported that most free VPN services are linked to Chinese companies, why would that be?
