Khao tom (ข้าวต้ม) looks rather pale and sleepy in the morning—until it gets properly dressed. It is one of my favourite Isaan breakfasts. My wife makes it; I eat it. When I am at the hospital, I may eat a bowl inside or outside while waiting for my check-up. It is warm, comforting and wonderfully light on the stomach.

Thank you for the accurate police work. Guilty as charged: that photograph did indeed come from the page you found.

In my defence, I added the text in the upper-left corner myself—and that was not easy, you know! ;-)

But here is what we actually had: our own in-house, Western-style Isaan porridge.

Will I now be sent to jail, just like Colonel Sanders? Fortunately, we built the floors in our house ourselves, so I know there are no secret trapdoors through which I can disappear!

And, for the record, I hate runny eggs in my porridge. So that is one less concern for our dear and beloved Jingthing.

Oh, the lengths one must go to these days to attract a little attention. Unbelievable!

Looks a lot like the one I just cooked up for my brunch/lunch. You can get nice imported Australian beef at Makro so burgers are easy..

You assume correctly—to some extent! 😄 The first bowl was borrowed; my only contribution was the straight text, rotated into the upper-left corner.

After a member of ASEAN NOW requested locally sourced evidence, I submitted Exhibit B: our genuinely homemade Western-style Isaan porridge. That second image carries the curved (perfectly arced) lettering—something standard software does not make particularly easy. It turns the bowl into my own little signature plate.

I did not do it simply to show off. At most, the showing off was merely the garnish. 😄

I trust the porridge police now have enough evidence to close the case. 💯

In a well made Cesar you should not see the anchovies. They should be smashed and emulsified when you are making the dressing. Whipped up along with the olive oil, eggs, garlic, lemon and Worchester sauce.

Agree, hence my mention of packaged dressing. Best Caesar Salad ever served was by a Mayan in Mexico, made at the table, dressing from scratch, before other components added, and not a fan of anchovies, I was amazed how damn tasty it was.

Of all places to get served a proper Caesar Salad ... go figure.

Never to be replicated ... you always remember you first 😂

I have seen it several ways:

No anchovy

Anchovy emulsified in the dressing

Anchovy emulsified in the dressing, with anchovy fillets on top.

I have never seen a whole anchovy on a Caesar.

I think originally, and most commonly, I think the "anchovy" just comes from Worstershier sauce.
