Crime Man Arrested After 18 Years on the Run for Gun Murder at Drinking Party
Picture courtesy of CIB A man wanted for nearly two decades for a deadly shooting during a drinking session has been arrested by The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). The arrest brings an end to an 18-year-long manhunt for Mr. Woramet, who was wanted for imurder and illegal possession of a firearm. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) at a house in Song Chan subdistrict, Krasang district, Buriram province, the suspect’s hometown. The crime dates back to 2007, when Mr. Woramet fatally shot a man in Si Racha district, Chonburi province, using a pen gun, a disguised firearm resembling a pen, during a heated argument in a drinking circle. According to the investigation, the suspect had been struck in the back during the altercation before retaliating with the concealed weapon. Following the incident, Mr. Woramet fled the scene on a motorcycle and managed to evade authorities for 18 years. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a weapon in a public place without reasonable cause. A renewed investigation led officers to trace his whereabouts to Nong Teng subdistrict in Krasang, Buriram. Upon locating him, police moved in and arrested him without incident. Mr. Woramet admitted his identity and confessed to the crime, claiming he acted in self-defence. He has since been handed over to the investigative officers of Si Racha Police Station in Chonburi province to face legal proceedings. The arrest was made under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Bhuridej, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, with oversight from Police Major General Wittaya Sriprasertphap, CSD Commander, and Police Colonel Natewit Thanasitnitikul, Superintendent of Subdivision 2. The operational team was led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phuwadol Premprewan. Adapted by Asean Now from CIB 2025-05-13. -

Report Hoy Mee Storm Hoax: Thai Meteorological Department Denies Threat
Picture courtesy of Thai Rath The Thai Meteorological Department has firmly dismissed rumours circulating online about an impending tropical storm dubbed "Hoy Mee" set to strike Thailand. Issued on May 12, the department clarified there's no storm predicted to impact Thailand between May 9-13, countering viral misinformation. The Anti-Fake News Centre of Thailand has also addressed the fake "Hoy Mee" storm alert, emphasising reliance on official sources for accurate weather updates. Despite these online rumours, only typical summer storms with occasional thunder, strong gusts, and rare hail are expected in certain regions over the coming days. Public officials urge Thai citizens to refrain from sharing unverified news, promoting awareness of official communication from the Thai Meteorological Department as the sole reliable source for weather updates. This directive aims to curb misinformation and ensure public safety by reinforcing the importance of trusting credible news channels. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Thai Newsroom 2025-05-13
