Fire Kills 11 Cats 5 Others Injured, Owner Shocked by Fire in Room Where 29 Cats Were Kept
A fire occurred at a house on October 4, in the Klong Gao Hong community on Pracha Uthit 90 Road, Thung Khru district, resulting in the tragic death of 11 cats, while many others were left injured. Five of the surviving cats have been rushed to a nearby animal hospital for treatment, while the rest have been given first aid by veterinarians at the scene. Police officers from Thung Khru Police Station responded to the emergency call after the fire broke out at a two-story, semi-wooden house, which was quickly engulfed by flames. Firefighters from the Thung Khru fire station arrived promptly and managed to extinguish the blaze. After controlling the fire, they began clearing the smoke to assess the damage. Upon entering the property, the rescue team was met with a heartbreaking sight. Nine cats were found dead inside the house, while many others were severely injured by the intense heat. Volunteers swiftly worked to save the surviving cats, moving them to safety and providing urgent medical attention. In total, the house owner had 29 cats, with 9 perishing in the fire, one dying later from severe injuries, and one found dead outside the home. Several cats remain unaccounted for, with 12 suffering burns. Ms. Sirisara, 53, the homeowner and cat owner, expressed her deep sorrow. “I wasn’t home at the time, but my aunt was. I rushed back as soon as I heard about the fire,” she explained. “I had around 29 cats, each in separate cages on the second floor. I’m not sure what caused the fire – whether it was a short circuit or if one of the cats chewed through the wires. I always kept a power strip plugged in, even when I turned off the fan.” Preliminary investigations have yet to determine the exact cause of the fire. Officials will conduct a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances that led to this incident. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-05 -

Where to apply for non-immigrant 'O' visa (over-50) without drawing UK pension?
I am planning on applying for my first non imm O later this year via the evisa portal from London. Could someone clarify that the 800k equivalent (the method I will be using) is only required on the day of application? From reading the London website it appears 3 months statements are only required for the income method. Have I got that right? -

If cost is zero consideration: What is the very best clinic for dental implant in CM?
I have had dental work including crowns carried out in Thailand for about 14 years the standard is as good as my home country Australia and the work carried out in the UK for the few years I worked there. The only difference being that the female dentists here are better looking. -

Chiang Mai on High Alert as Ping River Surges Beyond 5.25 Metres
We gave up and went to bed at 11:30pm last night with the water only inches from our house. The sois all around us are flooded and the force of water coming down the klongs is like Niagra Falls! We're in Mae Rim, North of Chiang Mai and this is the first time this area has ever flooded in the memory that anyone here can remember. Our floods have now moved South to the City, our water levels here are receding slightly this morning but are still dangerously high. These latest floods were caused by releases of water from the Mae Tang Dam, we knew about them yesterday morning and were warned in advance, I'm not sure Chiang Mai was! If there's no more water releases for a few days, we'll be fine. If not, it's going to be a very difficult time for everyone. -

Care Homes Urged to Embrace Transgender Identities in Elderly Care
Unlikely that the need would arise in Thailand at this point in time as most would be unable to afford it. https://www.worldbank.org/en/country/thailand/publication/caring-for-thailand-s-aging-population Most in need of elder care continue to depend on family and community care as the institutional long-term care costs are high and most Thais cannot can afford it without government support. -

Is Thailand Value for money
Food isn't bad for us unless we east junk food, especially all the time. There is a lot of delicious healthy and somewhat healthy food out there, as it's all I've ever eaten besides the occasional junk food. Try Texas BBQ, New York style pizza, Shrimp Scampi, Lasagne (homemade), Australian, Texas, or a myriad of other cheeseburgers, Broiled Swordfish, and a host of others who might have some extra calories but are still healthy food.
