Trump had a day or so before the China restriction, expanded his Muslim travel ban (which surprisingly did not include Saudi's) to include some black African countries.

 

Biden did not call the president’s travel restriction xenophobic or racist, but he did denounce Trump’s coronavirus response as “xenophobic” as he was responding to a tweet in which Trump used a racist term 'the China Virus' to describe the virus.

There’s no direct quote from Sanders criticizing the travel restrictions. However, during a Fox News town hall, Sanders insisted that he wouldn’t consider closing the U.S. border to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Possibly some media outlets criticized the restriction because they don't work.

P.S. Trump may have done the right thing, but not fully as he let American citizen from China in without check (I guess in his simple min, only Chinese could be infected).

He also spared UK from travel bans, and that's how the virus was introduced on the East coast (ill-intentioned people said it was because of his properties in UK -who could believe that?)
