As a foreigner you will be denied many things in Thailand.

yes but some members have been able to find loopholes like yellow book, work permit  etc... so I wanted to see before checking all the banks. CIMB today published a very inviting offer: 1.88% digital savings account.

On the TrueMoney app they show a Savings Acct offering up to 4% interest. Selecting it on the app it comes back saying 'For Thais only'.....

Wait for it; in China it's hard to get even a SIM card, as it needs to be registered by the shop, which can only be done online if the buyer has  a Chinese ID card. I'm waiting for that to be introduced in Thailand...

What exactly is a "Special digital savings account"? I have paid most of my bills from my KBank phone app for a few years now, does that count?

It is a high interest savings account fully digital (no bank book)

Wow, that's different than when I was living there back in 2006/2007. Then it had to be registered but I could do so using my passport. I am not sure but I think China was registering (tracking) SIM cards before Thailand.

In 2015 I went from shop to shop. The staff tried to register me with my passport number, then told me: "Cannot. Only Chinese ID number."

Yes, as a foreigner I don't even get any interest on the balance of my KTB bank account.

You should check with your KTB Branch again. I have a KTB Bank account and a deposit account which give good interest. The deposit 2% and the saving account only a few baht, as I not have that much money in the saving account.

But with digital accounts mostly the problem is that we not have an offizial ID card with CHIP and laserID on the back.

Correct, even though it might be possible to open one at a local branch instead of doing it using the app.

I like it, good on them, if you don't like it you are not forced to stay, it's filtering out the penniless foreigners.

If you have the money, you are eligible.

Rubbish.....  I am sure I have much more money than the majority of those on this forum and sure in the he77 more than many Thais.

Money has nothing to do with it.

Panda Food won't allow me to use the TrueMoney Wallet account to prepay for food delivery due to the fact that I'm a foreigner....but Lazada allows me to prepay using that same account...... now explain that!

NOTE: Food Panda's reason is saying that I'm not a Thai. So I use my daughter's account.

I was commenting regarding your discrimination quote.

Long live Thailand's discrimination ????

Upto food panda, nothing to do with me.

BTW, back in 2005 I asked my bank (Kasikorn) for a credit card, the staff told me that I needed a work permit and visa. I work on an offshore drilling rig, on rotation, 28/28, so traveling in on a tourist visa only. The assistant manager looked at my monthly deposits, I was buying some properties so bringing my monthly salary over 400,000 baht every month, I became eligible for a credit card and I also have a safety deposit box, Kasikorn Pattaya Tai branch. I only had to obtain a Wisdom credit card to be allowed the safety box

????????????????????????????????????

It's all about the MONEY

I'm Pro discrimination ????

Are you too lazy to read my initial comment?

Here it is, discrimination

The guys crying about discrimination are those elderly expats on a measly pension.... Bloody crybabies.

You have no idea, stop wasting my time

Well my K-Bank mobile phone app feels fully digital to me, and I keep my bank book locked away once a year for immigration purposes only.

But I guess all of your account still have a real bankbook behind. Meaning every account you see in your K-Bank app you also have a bank book with this account number at home (in your locked away area).

But when I try to click on the "Open e-Savings" button then soon it shows for Thais only (I guess you need this blue ID card to be able to do most of this).

Maybe other countries should start being biased with Thais living there?

....the continued discrimination is an ugly look for a country like Thailand

maybe that's what the meeting was about  555

PM’s Closed-Door Meeting with Thai Central Bank Governor

When/where did I say it was up to you...... do show me please.

You must be Thai then if you were buying properties.... (multiple)..... So if you are Thai why were you not able to get a credit card?

I wonder how long it will work for you especially as you seem to be quite a agressive person - just state your opinion without the rancor.
