Chinese embassy confirms one citizen died and one injured in mall shooting

The Chinese Embassy in Bangkok issued a statement today (Wednesday) confirming that one Chinese national was killed and another injured in the shooting at Siam Paragon shopping mall yesterday.

 

The embassy said that, when it learned about the shooting, it immediately activated its emergency protocols, to monitor the incident and coordinate with Thai authorities by sending consular officials to the mall and to visit the injured in hospital. The injured Chinese national, it said, is in a stable condition.

 

The embassy also said that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara had called Chinese Ambassador Han Zhiqiang to express their condolences, on behalf of the Thai government, over the death of a Chinese citizen and expressed concern for the injured.

I remember a short time back when there was an article here about the Chinese being fearful to come to Thailand due to people on Social Media saying it wasn't safe.

This event should hammer the last nail into that particular coffin.

Not really a new priority, but indeed becoming a compulsion with only one country. Better to spend, or exchange those yuan into dollars as long as they are still worth anything...

 

 

 

By the way, I found this gem on "TheThaiger": "Siam Paragon, the scene of the shooting, expressed its condolences to the victims and their families in both Thai and Chinese."

 

Again, only Thai and Chinese, despite the fact that the second woman shot was from Myanmar... But, I guess, Burmese are neither a priority as customers in Thailand, nor as tourists.

As this news is absorbed by potential Chinese tourists many will decide not to holiday in Thailand. There has always been a suspicion in China that Thailand is not entirely safe. I should add that in the last 60 years I have never personally felt in any way threatened in Thailand. RIP and condolences to those who died, and to the families of those who died, in the Siam Paragon shootings.

Wondering, if they called the Burmese embassy for their citizen who lost his/her life as well?
