Bangkok — On October 3rd, 2023, the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) dispatched a special operations team to raid a gambling den in the middle of the Din Daeng market community in Bangkok.

The Ministry of the Interior received a complaint from Din Daeng locals that there had been a gambling den organized by an unidentified influential figure for more than 3 years. Many locals in the crowded community area were allegedly addicted to gambling, with schools and government offices nearby.

The 24/7 facility reportedly used a snooker club as a facade and had additional rooms with layers of electric door mechanisms. Each entrance would have guards stationed with strict security. The interior was like a maze for those who were not regular customers.

Yeah it's strange but you can rest assured, sooner or later some Thai will grass you up, it's a national pastime isn't it?

So how does the government prove that making gambling legal will stop all this? Thais will bet on anything and will spend the whole of their income on it if allowed.
