Thai With Aus Family To Nz (tourist)

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Ive had a good look through the forum and im still a little confused.

I am an Aus citizen, married to a Thai, who lives in Australia with me on a temporary residency visa.

We have organsied a family trip to NZ with my 3 of my family all Aus citizens also.

We are only staying 2 weeks. Have all hotels prebooked and paid. Paid air tickets in and out of NZ. Evidence of funds for travel etc.

Now i know obviously no problems for me and my family to enter being Aus citizens, but what about my wife accompanying us?

The reason i am confused is that in the Guide from the NZ immi site it states "the arrival card you complete as you enter new zealand is an application for a visitors permit".

So does she just go with us, fill out the arrival card and i accompany her through nz immi ?

What is the deal with visitor visa v permit ?

Im hoping i dont have to go through the whole rigmorale of sending away paperwork, passport, application fees for this type of trip?

Hope someone out there can shed some light, thanks.

Your wife will need a resident return visa in order to re enter Oz....if she has this then she doesnt need to apply for a visa to enter NZ.

I havent looked at the NZ site before but that is the way I read it....maybe one of our Kiwi mates could assist here.

The arrival card would be the same as fill in to enter Thailand and they stamp your passport as a visa. I think it is just a bit of Govt gobbledegook in the way it is worded.....

Again could we get an NZer to confirm.

Thanks for the input. When u say resident return visa... She has a Spouse temporary visa (subclass 309)

on the Aus website it states "you are permitted to enter or remain in Australia with your spouse, until a decision is made regarding your permanent visa" However it seems RRV's are a completely different thing...

Sorry mate... i got a bit confused here...

Her TR visa should have a multi travel condition on it....but that is for entry and departure from Oz

This is where I got the last info from....

You do not need a visa or permit to visit New Zealand if you are:

• a New Zealand citizen or residence permit holder; or

• an Australian citizen or resident who holds either a

current Australian Permanent Residence Visa or a current

Australian Resident Return Visa; or

• exempt from the requirement to hold a permit to be

in New Zealand.

But whether the multi travel condition amounts to a an RRV...I am not sure

perhaps you can call the NZ consulate here to confirm.
