Cambodia looks ok

PP is basically ultra-poor BKK. Siem Reap will have you scratching your head for something to do on day 4. Partic you, who has solemnly vowed on a bible not to pay the admission fee to go inside Angkor Wat.

Other than that, the towns are not that diff or nice. Battambang is the best for having a smattering of Khmer-fusion, tricked up tourist menus and an average-ish riverside walk.

North of B-bang, 'not a lot to tempt you to linger. If you want the nowhere place that they try to talk up as an eco-lodge, Cambodia is between Thai and Lao prices.

Taking the boat thru the Delta to Vietnam is worth a YouTube. But I didn't love it and I hear it's gotten more Chinese tourist-oriented since I did it.

Thanks for the glowing review.

I would do it with something else. Prob Vietnam.

Crossing into Laos is legendary for border agents wanting bribes, but it's only 100 baht. S Laos after the north of Cambodia will have you thinking that Vientiane is Times Square when you finally get there.

Didn't love Saigon -at all- but at least it has a pulse.

Fish Amok is the worst famous dish in SEA.

Maybe i should go live in the isaan village for 10 years. Might do me good. No farangs there. 30 baht chicken feet, 10 baht ice cream.

Siem Reap is OK for a few days.

PP when I went last year dirty and had too many bums and drug addicts in plain sight. Prices way up from a few years ago especially for entertainment. Saw some guy in the gutter sleeping with a needle hanging from his arm.  Won't go back.

What you're describing sounds like Christmas dinner in Cambodia.

'Had a great 20 hour bus ride from Hue to Vientiane back in the Lonely Planet era. Hue is underrated a bit. Those epic bus rides have been killed by cheap flights.

Def search for my recent thread about BKK prices now prevalent in PP>

Phnom Penh and Siem Reap both look ok. Vietnam looked a bit western for me. Phils too much crime.

Might go next time.

Enjoyed them all, saw no crime in my 10ish trips to PI.

Have you considered a nice, long walk?

Take the train to Aranyaprathet.  Walk to Siem Reap, across to Stung Treng, then north to Pakse, and then over to Ubon Ratchitani.

There's the 750km walkabout you've always wanted to experience.

Might get robbed

Got robbed by a Chinese man and woman on my first trip to PP. They claimed I owed them 30 dollars for “beer”. 30 dollars worth of beer in Cambodia would last you a month. I didn’t see any weapons but I was taking no chances. I phoned a friend who was at the casino. He came over with the thirty bucks. The Chinese couple were dressed like HISO Thais and spoke very good English. My fault for being too cheap to take a tuk tuk back to my hotel.

I honestly love going to phnom phen.

Really nice hotels now and the girls are fun and beautiful.

Being married has unfortunately put the kebash on a return trip alone.

It looked cleaner than Bangkok. What did you think?
