You cannot conceive of a reasonable explanation for not keeping abreast of AN posts from the date of joining until recently?  It really doesn't take much effort to think a tad deeper.

Thanks for these informed replies, very helpful.

Could I also deposit USD ( cash) and going forward make transfers out of Thailand ?

Thanks again

None of this is going to help you open an account but may be useful for background.

If you want to keep it in USD as already said you will need a Foreign Currency Account. Not all branches are able to issue these.

For one example if you go to the Bangkok Bank web site and look up their Foreign Currency Account it will tell you how it works and you can search for their charges. One of which from memory is that they will charge you a %age to deposit or withdraw cash.

If you just want a Thai baht account you can deposit USD and they will give you the then current exchange rate plus fees. That is then reversed to make transfers out. Better off normally changing the USD at a money changer (checking rates) and depositing baht.

If you do an online search for foreign currency accounts and AseanNow you should find some earlier threads from here - the AN search engine is not normally that helpful.......
