On October 29, 2023, under the direction of high-ranking Thai immigration officials, authorities arrested Mr. Muniyanti, a 36-year-old Myanmar national, along with 19 others, comprising 16 men and 4 women.

The group stands accused of possessing and using forged entry stamps and official documents. Notably, all their passports had counterfeit entry stamps from Suvarnabhumi Airport, reported Naew Na.

This arrest followed an inspection on October 28th in Hat Yai, Songkhla province, where these foreign workers were gathered. Upon checking, it was found that every individual's travel document bore a counterfeit entry stamp.

Upon interrogation, the detainees confessed that they intended to covertly travel to Malaysia for work. They had collectively paid a middleman approximately 120,000 Baht (or about 7.5 million Kyats) in cash for the journey.

The broker, based in Myanmar, had provided them with the falsified travel documents, hoping to deceive any checking officials.

The group entered Thailand through a natural border point near Kanchanaburi and had later taken a bus to Hat Yai, Songkhla, where they were apprehended while waiting for their next transportation towards the Thai-Malaysia border.
