PM’s land redistribution gift: Thai farmers in Udon Thani get a new year surprise

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin yesterday announced the redistribution of over 9,276 rai of army-owned land in Udon Thani to landless farmers, as a new year gift. This significant move is part of the Nong Wua So development model aimed at alleviating poverty and landlessness issues among farmers.

The Thai prime minister lauded the army’s decision to repurpose their surplus land for the benefit of those in need. The land redistribution initiative was conceptualised during the early days of his tenure, to empower recipients with knowledge of land development and farming for income generation, thereby boosting the country’s strength, revealed the Bangkok-born PM.

“It’s a New Year gift to the people from the armed forces. It’s welcoming that the forces have joined in the push to advance the country’s progress.”

The land handover is set to occur on December 25.

The Royal Irrigation Department is responsible for providing water for farming on the allocated lands. These lands were previously under the control of the 2nd Army Area and are now being repurposed for agricultural activities under the development model, reported Bangkok Post.

Great incentive.

Now if they could also look into all those having purchased a house on leasehold and enable any foreigner in such a situation to be able to fully purchase and own the land at at the local thai rate.  That would be perfect as ti would enhance tourism and revenue overnight and  encourage higher foreign investment and revenue.

In truth it is a play on Words/ The Army may have use of the land but the LAND belongs to the COUNTRY< allocated to the Army. Its use it determined by the Government who have NOW decided that5 it will be reallocated /

P{eople may think the Army is being generous in fact it is obeying orders, I have seen what the Army does here. NOTHING, so why do they need so much land ?

That's like being given a brand new car but you don't have 2 baht to rub together to put fuel in it.

Good move .

Hopefully this will deter the ' landless farmers ' from encroaching  the national forest reserves .

'Army owned' land.. There should be no 'army owned' land.. The army is a servant of the people, as represented by its elected officials.

Get rid of all 'army owned' everything. The army can use resources that the people allocate to them, not the other way around !!
