Now teacher can you explain to me what a class of 10-15 year olds has to do with this statement, "thais dont have the finesse, nor the palate to distinguish and enjoy a good beer"? I see no correlation at all. Most teachers would capitalize Thai's as well. 

They will be competing against junk beer. Easy deal. 

 

Thai beer is only rivaled by Serbian beer, and the mass produced American beers, in terms of the very low quality. Poor grade of hops, barely, and the production process seems to be entirely lacking in pride. Typical of the big monopolies. Even a large production beer, like Beer Laos blows away any Thai beer, hands down. Thailand desperately needs a vital craft beer movement, and the youth are ready to mount it. If only the dinosaurs would stop protecting their "bankers" and move out of the way. In other words, allow some progress, you mindless simpletons! 

 

Boon Rawd Brewery, which makes Singha, and ThaiBev, which brews Chang, the country’s best-selling beer, are owned and run by two of the wealthiest families in Thailand. Through longevity and political influence, these two breweries have dominated Thai beer for nearly a century, forcing out or crushing any competition, foreign or domestic. And we all know how they easily accomplish this. 

 

Thaopipob Linjittkorn, or Thao as he is more popularly known, a lawyer and homebrewer, was very publicly arrested in 2017 for making beer. He used that publicity to win an election to Parliament in 2019, along with 80 other members of the Future Forward Party. This progressive, pro-democracy party included in its platform a detailed plan to deregulate the beer industry, as well as a proposal for the legalization of marijuana, citing both as ways of putting money into the pockets of small businesses and local farmers.

 

For some, craft beer is associated with anti-establishment politics. “It’s very similar to the French Revolution, which started from a cafe in Paris, where people drank coffee,” says Taopiphop. “The fuel of the revolution is not coffee any more, it’s craft beer.” Taopiphop adds that, after the 2014 coup in Thailand, many pro-democracy activists chose to meet in Bangkok’s craft beer bars.

 

If only the younger Thais were allowed to express themselves, be inventive, be creative, be industrious, and use their smarts and ambition, Thailand could have a future. Craft beer is needed here, and so are the young entrepreneurs. But, that future appears to be suppressed at every turn by dinosaurs, who only answer to money, money, and even more money. Money is the God of lesser men. The money first attitude is holding back Thailand on so many levels.

Okay People, lets get to the point.

I scrolled down 4 pages and only found two post containing a small review of the beers and how they taste.

Can anybody who tasted the Carabao beers be more specific of how they are? and are they any good?

I will see if I can buy a bottle of the Lager beer when I go shopping tomorrow. However it will have to be good to beat Feberbrau which is by far the best beer brewed in Thailand. A suberb lager beer.

Most AN respondents don't get one important point - all beers in Thailand are made for Thais not westerners. Alcohol content decreased over 12 years ago to meet the wants of a younger generation of male and female Thais who didn't want to get drunk or fat on 6-7% alcohol (high carb) beer.  Asking if they will make a flat, warm beer for Brits is dreaming. As for making a version of Coors, ahem, why? 

Just drank that  bottle of Carabao Lager.

To me it tasted like Leo.

I hope the IPA is better.

Thai beer sets the standard so low that there is not much to aim for.

 

I know people knock it but Bud tastes better than most Thai beer.

It  doesn't need to be flat and it won't be warm. Beerlao make a very respectable IPA.

You got it wrong I was told by the mods it is illegal to display any type of alcohol and the mods erased it, just ask steven100 he had his profile picture removed because it displayed the former PM

Just had one glass Dunkel, and not bad IMO, could give Lao Dark a run for the money. Smooth taste with little bitter aftertaste like a stout.

 

Don't have Lao dark in the house currently, since it is rarer than hens teeth, but saw some in Tesco'ssssssssssss when I bought the Dunkel so will get one to better compare, but this beer suits me.

Maybe that's why they dilute it. They don't have to actually taste it as they get pi**** 

My wife just returned from the local shop at 7 this morning with the Lager and Dunkel versions, 60 baht each. Don't you just love a wife who brings you beer for breakfast! However, I'll wait for the sun to go down before doing a taste test. Meanwhile, she'll seek out the Weizen and IPA when she goes to Lotus'ssssss and CJ later today.

SinghaI mostly drink  and Chang are not that bad. Certainly not craft beers, but good enough for general consumption.

I mostly drink Leo but keep both Chang and Singha in my bar refrigerator, along with some of the more expensive , imported beers for when the mood arises . including a Corona  with a slice of lime when I want to delude myself thinking I got class. ,

but 'am no beer snob, After a hot day in the sun I will drink anything. 

 

Has anyone in Bangkok bought the Dunkel and, if so, where? Thanks.

 

I just checked out the Cheers Extra 6% at Big C then I remembered I tried it before, had a petrol aftertaste so I won't be buying it, Tapper 6.5% no aftertaste

Yes, it's not a top-end IPA but it's worth drinking to get a British ale type flavour for me.
