Foreign National Rams Pattaya Officer at Checkpoint, Flees into Forest & Sea
UPDATE German National Faces Serious Charges After Hit-and-Run at Pattaya Police Checkpoint A German man is facing four serious charges following a hit-and-run incident at a police alcohol checkpoint in Pattaya, which resulted in severe injuries to a police officer. Despite refusing to provide his name or consent to an alcohol test, officers transported him to the hospital for testing, which confirmed his blood alcohol content exceeded legal limits. Police identified the suspect as 30 year old Christopher, a German national who had rented the motorcycle involved in the incident. CCTV footage from the checkpoint clearly recorded the crash, and this evidence has been submitted to investigators for the legal proceedings against him. Christopher now faces multiple serious charges, including: • Drunk driving and reckless driving causing physical and mental harm to others, as well as property damage. • Failing to assist or notify authorities immediately after the accident and fleeing the scene. • Violating orders from traffic officers under the Land Traffic Act. • Resisting arrest and obstructing officers in their duties. As for the injured officer, doctors at Pattaya City Hospital are monitoring his condition, which includes minor brain bleeding and a small fracture in the posterior nasal cavity. He will remain under observation for 3-4 days, and should his condition not improve, he may be transferred to Chonburi Hospital for further treatment. -- 2024-11-03 -

Indian Tourist Couple Scammed in Pattaya: Hair Growth Product Promises Fall Short
A 41-year-old Indian tourist, Mr. Shuja Abbas, recently reported a scam involving a hair growth product during his trip to Pattaya with his partner. Mr. Abbas shared that while strolling near Pattaya Soi 10 Beach on October 1, he encountered a foreign seller promoting a “miracle” herbal hair growth solution, claiming visible results within a month. Intrigued, Mr. Abbas and his partner agreed to be escorted to a shop located in the Tip Plaza Market on Pattaya Beach Road. There, foreign staff reassured them that the product would deliver results within a month, prompting Mr. Abbas to pay over 7,000 baht. After a month of using the product with no noticeable improvement, he returned to the shop requesting a refund, only to be turned away. Frustrated, he filed a report, on November 1, at Pattaya City Police Station and sought assistance from local media. Upon arriving at the shop with reporters, Mr. Abbas observed several foreign workers hastily dispersing. A Thai woman, along with a foreign national who identified as the shop’s owner, eventually refunded the 7,000 baht, bringing relief to Mr. Abbas. The shop owners maintained that their business had the necessary permits, though licensing from the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was pending. Mr. Somkid Boonsungnern, a 50-year-old local motorcycle taxi driver near Tip Plaza Market, disclosed to reporters that similar scams targeting tourists occur frequently, especially at night. He noted that many foreign groups, often from Pakistan, operate scams along Pattaya’s beachfront, selling various questionable products. Despite occasional police interventions, these groups tend to reappear shortly after. Mr. Somkid expressed concern that Indian tourists are frequently targeted, with some left in tears after realising they have been scammed. He urged local authorities to take swift and effective action to prevent such incidents and safeguard Pattaya’s image as a safe tourist destination. Picture courtesy of TMN -- 2024-11-03 -

Emirates or Qatar ?
Yes, saw that, apparently you rarely get the Q suite on both flights. The reason I’m asking for thoughts is that the reviews of Qatar online are terrible. And all recent too ??
