Education officials in Thailand urged people to be wary of potential scams linked to the recruitment of assistant teacher positions. This warning comes after the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) received complaints about attempts to extract benefits from the special selection process for assistant teachers.

The OCSC is currently refining the selection criteria, aiming for transparency, fairness, and an absence of position trading. Prawit Era-wan, the Secretary-General of the OCSC, shed light on the issue. He stated that the OCSC has recently received complaints about attempts to extract benefits from the special selection process for assistant teachers.

The OCSC has advised applicants preparing for the examination not to fall prey to such scams. They are in the process of refining the selection criteria to ensure fairness, transparency, and an absence of position trading.

In addition, the OCSC is working to resolve the issue of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) not teaching according to the specialist subjects that are in shortage, said Prawit.

“The OCSC is in the midst of refining these criteria. By refining these criteria, we are focusing on ensuring that the regional education area Civil Service Commission (CSC) conducts operations according to the criteria and methods set by the OCSC, adhering to the principles of good governance.

“However, the new criteria will have a system in place to strictly check the determination of majors this time. Do not allow them to open in branches that do not have a shortage. If it is found that there is corruption or actions that may lead to corruption, there will be strict action.”

Im not quite sure i understand this?  Factions?  I was aware that teacher  and School director jobs had a bribe cost if you wanted to move to a better location.   But now they are saying the tests for assistants are changed to make it easier to select candidates feom certain factions?   And they will be checking validity of advanced degrees?   Only in Thailand.

...did you say "strict action"? ...without wishing to make fun of thailand, a country I adore, you'll need a whole army of agents to fight corruption, if it ever appears to exist in that sector...

My step-daughter was interviewed for a permanent position & I drove her to the school.  Twenty minutes later I was asked to go in.  The female principal offered the job on condition I would teach three half days a week for free.  I have 39 years experience of English Teaching.)  I agreed but the unprincipled principal had two other candidates to see later in the week.  We learned later that 300,000 baht trumps 39 years teaching experience as the later candidate made a better offer.

You have to admit 300k baht would be hard to beat.   Was this an assistant or teaching position?  Plus the directors can get kickbacks on all work done on the school grounds.  They get a wad of cash from the financial office  (100k in my direct  experience) for those sport days and its easy to pocket some of that.   And iv6e heard they can keep any difference between budget for foreign teacher and salary actually paid.

Teaching.  The rest of your post was illuminating & helps explain why Thai Education/policing/politics are so dire.
