The incident occurred on Highway 36 near a PTT gas station in Pong, heading towards Rayong, involving a collision between a motorcycle and an 18-wheeler truck that fled the scene. The crash resulted in the death of a male motorcyclist. Authorities are appealing to the public for any dashcam footage that could help identify the truck involved in this fatal hit-and-run incident. The accident took place in Pong subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nong Prue Police Station. Emergency services arrived swiftly at the scene, but unfortunately, the motorcyclist, whose identity has not yet been released, had already succumbed to his injuries. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist traveling on the inbound lane towards Rayong when the 18-wheeler truck, attempting to pass another vehicle and collided with the motorcycle. Elderly Australian Caught Stealing Vitamin C in Chonburi
It's called extortion, what should happen here is that everyone involved in the attempt to extort the old guy gets arrested This case is going to shine a very bright light on this practice now - internationally and it does not look very good for both the pharmacy and the police. Nobody gives a <deleted> about an old guy stealing some vitamins, wtf -

You feel that bad, go and pay his fine for him. Buy him a crate of vitamin C pills as well. He didn't "make a mistake", he went there to commit a crime, for a third time, at least the shop is only aware of 3 thefts. BTW, he lives in the LoS and is vitamin C deficient? There's so much natural vitamin C available in the fruits and vegetables everywhere. From the looks of that gut, I'll wager he doesn't have problems paying for beer. -

I dunno, when you've reached a point in your 82 year old life that you gotta steal a 360 baht box of vitamin C you have much bigger problems going on IMO. And, the idea that the pharmacy is now going to charge him almost 10K baht seems a bit over the top to me. I reckon there's more to this story. It wasn't like he was trying to steal Viagra, then they should throw the book at him (but be careful where it hits, don't want to muck up the book) -

If the amount of 9500 if paid closed the case he would should have paid it. Better than held in detention fined in court then deported. No sympathy though for a third time offender with previous warnings -

Teacher in Chumphon Wields Air Gun in School Incident
Picture courtesy of Thai PBS A vocational school in Chumphon's Mueang district was shaken on September 23, when a teacher suffering from mental health issues brandished an air gun and threatened students and staff. The incident ended without injury as police were able to safely apprehend the teacher after a tense one-hour standoff. Local police received an emergency call early morning, reporting that a teacher at the school appeared agitated and was wielding a weapon. The teacher, later identified as "Mr. K," a 59-year-old instructor in automotive mechanics, was seen walking near the school's flagpole, holding the air gun in a threatening manner. Both teachers and students had been preparing for a school meeting when the situation unfolded. Responding swiftly, police and emergency services arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area, evacuating students, staff, and parents to safety. Efforts to negotiate with Mr. K were initially unsuccessful, as he aimed the air gun at police and school administrators, forcing them to take cover behind nearby vehicles. After more than an hour of negotiation, Mr. K finally agreed to lay down his weapon and was taken into custody. Upon inspection, police confirmed that the gun was an air gun firing plastic pellets. The teacher was promptly transferred to Chumphon Hospital for treatment. A school administrator revealed that Mr. K had long been battling mental health issues, requiring consistent medication. He had been assigned to manage the school’s sound system, but frustration reportedly arose when he found the equipment room locked this morning. The teacher’s agitation escalated, leading to the incident. Though the air gun was not lethal, the staff feared that Mr. K might use it to harm students or damage property, prompting the call to authorities. One concerned parent expressed their fears for student safety, questioning why someone with known mental health challenges continued to teach. "The school should reconsider giving such high-pressure responsibilities to someone in Mr. K's condition," they said. Mr. K is due to retire next year, but today’s event has raised concerns about the school's policies and safety measures in managing mental health in the workplace. The police are continuing their investigation. -- 2024-09-24
