Thailand has been recognized with the ‘Golden Award’ for ‘Popular Destination’ at the 2023 Golden Awards by National Geographic Traveler China. The accolade signifies the country’s rising appeal among Chinese tourists, largely due to the government’s visa exemption scheme and efforts to ensure tourist safety and a quality travel experience.

The award, presented during the 18th edition of the ceremony, also highlights changes in Chinese tourists’ travel preferences. Winners were selected based on big data analysis, including search frequency and tourist numbers to popular destinations.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Beijing Office Director Pakkanan Winijchai accepted the award at the ceremony in Beijing on December 28, 2023.

Safety? Just followed a link to the Phuket subforum. The entire first page looks like Gunfight at the OK Corral.

Does that survey include all the road accidents and boating tragedies?

All of these “Awards “ are well paid for in advance when submitting the paperwork. It’s a bunch of crockery and is just a way for Thailand to try to stay in the game and look much better than it actually is. Hence the drop in actual figures coming.
