Do i simply have to buy a thai sim card? YesYes if you want to use the Thaiphone system likle AIS, DTAC, No if you want to use your existing phone number via Autoroaming (much more expensive per call/min)

how much would one be? 150 - 300 BahtTrueMove starts at Baht 99 and the most expensive is above Baht 3,000 depends on kind of card (regular or prepaid) and how long or how much you want to use the phone.

will my phone therefore have a different number? Yes

im going to bk first, Where to buy in bk (im staying near nana in bk) Any phone shop7/11 as well and others!

any other useful info re mobiles in said places? MBK has a huge area for Mobile Phones!

thankyou wap

Everything they said ^^^ :o

Plus, your UK phone may be network locked, meaning when you put your new SIM in it says 'SIM invalid' or words to that effect.

Unlocking can be done at many of the myriad of phone outlets. MBK (outside National Stadium BTS) is an excellent starting point for both your SIM and getting the phone unlocked.

If you have a really exotic phone it's possible that unlocking may not be available in which case used mobiles are available at silly money.

EDIT I don't think 7-Eleven sell SIM cards, they certainly do sell the top up cards for the pre-pay SIMs. IMHO if you're here for a short time a pre-pay is the way to go, many (all) of the post-pay plans require a work permit (or a Thai ID of course).

A few month ago I bought a DTAC SimCard at 7/11 for some testings in my Moban. But In don't know they still sell the SimCard's?!
