Proof of accommodation question for tourist visa

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a couple questions about proof of accommodation in Thailand.  I am from the USA, applying for a tourist visa online, and not sure where I will be staying while I am in Phuket.  I figured I would rent a place for a week before I travel, and then see where I wanted to stay for longer while I was there and book it in person.   I will probably stay outside of Phuket as well for a couple of weeks, but will have to wait till I am there to figure it out.  The online application is requesting proof of accommodation.  My questions are:

1.  Do I need to show them proof of accommodation for the entire 60 days I will be there?

2. Can I book a place for a week or two, and tell them I plan on visiting other areas and hotels, but do not currently have that information?

3.  If I choose Recreation learning (muay thai) as my reason for visit, do I have to provide proof from the gym I will be training at?

Basically would like to know the best way to provide proof of accommodation, without having to commit to the same hotel for my entire stay.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Make a booking with company such as Agoda for a week that is "pay at hotel" and no cancelation fee.

Cancel once your visa is issued.

If he is staying in Phuket for at least the first couple of days then really all he needs is his hotel booking for that time.  The hotels will keep track of him after that , won't they?

As for a visa for Muay Thai, I realize this is new, but does  he not have to have a gym accept him or at least know the ones in the area?

When I applied for my Tourist visa I booked a hotel in Bangkok for one night on Agoda and uploaded that to the application.

They also ask will you be staying anywhere else in Thailand to which I wrote my home address in Thailand and no proof was asked for.

My application was succesful.

I ignored that. Thinking he made mistake.

The reason for visit he would state "tourism".

Re the hotel booking he could actually pick one and book it. Few days will do.

I thought there was no declaration card on arrival any more, or is that not applicable to travelers from the US?

Also, my friend traveled to samui in December and trained and fought for a mui tai gym without any need for a visa or any other immigration related paperwork.

I would be surprised if they made it hard for tourists to participate, seeing as they are always banging on about promoting it to the world.

I assisted my mate with his single-entry, 60-day TR eVisa application via the Thai representation in the UK.

For proof of accommodation, they accepted an upload of his initial 2-night Bangkok hotel booking on agoda. No further info requested regarding where else he would be staying.

As for the OP's TR visa application, he should just focus on that. Any plan to study Muay Thai is something for the future, not for the immediate reason to visit. Mentioning it in the TR application will just confuse things at best or open a can of the proverbial at worst.

Good luck.

No inbound declaration card any more, correct.

Any tourist can front up and pay for a muay tai session at a gym; it's not proscribed. They can even agree to sign up and start a course.

With regard to the OP, he is primarily applying for a TR visa and it's of no importance or relevance to the TR visa application if he's going to visit a gym.

The OP also mentions "Recreation learning (muay thai)" as an alternative to the TR visa. I believe that requires what used to be called (still called?) the ED visa which will probably need some support documentation. Something to pursue AFTER he gets here and settles in.

The OP shouldn't be putting the cart before the horse for the visa: just get the TR, come to Phuket and take it from there.

On first Evisa last year I was staying multiple places over 2 months. The first accomodation was actually an AIRBNB for 5 days. I literally screenshotted the address in Thai managed to change it to the format for upload and that was that

Multiple people have said that for the London Embassy it "appears" that if you fill each box with "something" no matter what section it is the application is accepted

Seems to me they are more interested in the application being in JPEG than anything else. In reality (think about the old style paper applications we used to do) I suspect its a passport check in their system to show entries/exits are all in order and was the £30 paid and if all in order thats that !

Thank you all for your help, I appreciate it.   I booked a place for 6 days, and provided them with the hotel's receipt they sent to my email.  Completed my application yesterday on Sunday.  My status reads Processing

Pending Document Check (1).   Approximately how long does it take to receive my visa?
