The 20yos look 18 and the 18yos look 16. Western guys know Asians look younger.

Why are you making excuses?

I dunno how you could pinpoint the age down to 2 year intervals.

I've seen 26 year olds that could pass for 16.

My EX looked 25 when she was 35.

I saw a picture of her at 15 on her first day of work and I thought she was 9, lol. Seriously.

But she didn't have her period til 18, apparently, so maybe she was an unusual case.

So many wrongs here as usual in Thailand ....

The girls should not be interested in this offer or situation .....   they are old enough to know otherwise.

The guy is a absolute idiot and loser for even attempting this if he knew their age.

both are liable imo.   both knew right from wrong.

I'm making excuses for a young English man, if he is not part of the sceen and a tourist.

i remember my first trip to Thailand and it was like Disneyland. Would never have thought there were underaged girls at bars.

I bet if he asked their age they would have said 20, since that's the age you need to be to go to a bar in Thailand.

Parents should be prosecuted, too, if they sent them to do this work.

that's not correct ....  the girls were under age and they know that but still proceeded to go into something illegal.  The parent just told them to go to Bangkok and get a job,   they didn't arrange the bar and hookers.

this is legal?

Not even legal for an under 20 to be in a bar, not very 'ethical' of the guy, although i'm sure some on here will have sympathy for him

'Grown men should be staying well away from 18 year oldish girls. How sad.'

He was in his 30s I think. If you're a tourist, not been here long,  how can you tell a 20 odd year old girl from an under 18 year old girl?

By their ID cards, most going with a minor actually seek them out rather than make a mistake, of course his apologists will claim ID cards can be faked etc

Doubt that, they were employed by a bar in Hua-Hin . As is often the case. the business would likely have some connection with the family or friends of the family.

oldish '     are you for real on this comment?     either they show their ID and are 18 or legal age or they don't and lie as most Thais do ....   then they should be liable.

Then they are lying and liable.

Liable for what? Drinking in a bar??

They were trafficked for sex, according to Thai law.

Lemme guess, you think they should be charged for trafficking themselves? Lol

They are the victims in this case.

What planet are you on??

Did it say that in the article?

I'd bet they knew the bar owners/staff and sent them to work at the bar.

We can't know for sure, obviously.

if the parents did arrange everything know their age obviously .... then lock them up..

if they didn't then the girls knew what they were doing ...

this is prevalent in Thailand

if they were forced into this position by the parents or the bar owner ...then yes, they should go to jail.

If they worked at the bar on their own pretense and agreement then they are lying about their age and liable.

that's it ....

To be fair, you wouldn't expect underage prostitution to occur openly in a busy, developed tourist town, like Hua Hin, would you?

I don't think I've ever seem this.

However, Thai karaoke bars, different story.

Obviously it does, just that people are rarely arrested

I've never seen an underage hooker in a bar in Hua Hin, have you? Or any other tourist area in Thailand, for that matter

I'd say it's rare.

It's more likely found in Thai karaoke bars, but maybe that's where this guy went.

On what planet does that make sense?

So, if an adult has sex with a minor, which is statutory rape, the minor should be held liable if they lied about their age?

The point is they aren't old enough to know what they are doing. That's why the law protects them.
