Thai drug addict crashes pickup, killing 2 students, injuring 13

A Thai man addicted to drugs crashed his pickup into a roadside pavilion in the Sadao district in the southern province of Songkhla yesterday, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to 13 other pupils.

Hot season officially begins in Thailand

Thailand officially entered its hot season on Wednesday. It will last through to the middle of May with average daytime temperatures expected to be up to 2oC higher than last year, the Meteorological Department announced today.

Thailand caught in a cycle of low GDP growth and high household debt

Thailand’s household debt remains worryingly high at almost 91 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) as of the third quarter of last year, due largely to a debt overhang since COVID-19 hit the country in 2020.  Corporate debt was almost as high at 87.4 per cent of GDP in the same period, given the rising number of firms making low profit.

18 sentenced to death, 1 gets life in prison brawl case

Eighteen individuals today received the death penalty with one sentenced to life imprisonment in a landmark ruling at the Thong Pha Phum Provincial Court in Kanchanaburi province. The court acquitted four others in a case stemming from a deadly brawl between inmate groups from Ban Mueang Kan and Ban Bo Phloi against those from Ban Tha Maka. The incident, which occurred on February 22, 2015, resulted in the deaths of two inmates and injuries to six others.
