Felt 35
Does anyone know if there are hospitals / doctors in Bangkok and possibly can recommend a hospital that as far as possible use non-surgical treatment where the doctor will try to set the bones without surgery and use plastering / spica-cast for a broken thumb? Thanks Felt 1
Lacessit
I can't recommend a hospital in Bangkok, but I would walk out on any doctor who tried for surgery. Unless an X'ray shows a break way out of normal, setting with a cast and a prescription of calcium tablets should be all that is needed. Pain medication optional.
ABCDBKK
You can go to Bangkok Christian Hospital on Silom Road and see an orthopedic doctor. The costs there of an initial doctor's visit and x-rays are very reasonable and the doctors are good. I wouldn't keep putting it off. If the bone is broken, and it starts to set on its own, it could be even more difficult to fix later. Time could be working against you. Go see a proper doctor and see what they conclude. Only a doctor can examine you and tell you what's really needed. 1
Felt 35
Thanks for the replies. Any cost indication? I already have x-ray. Felt
ABCDBKK
800-1,200 Baht is the average cost for an office visit involving only a consultation. Cost depends on the doctor. Top specialists might charge slightly more, but presumably no more than 1,500. If you have an x-ray then why didn't you get treated by the hospital that did the x-ray? 1
steven100
I would just go to the Christian Hospital on Silom road today and get it seen too .... It's not wise to leave a bone brake of fracture untreated for any length of time .... as the healing process is jeopardized.
Sheryl
Surgery is rarely used for a broken thumb and would be rerserved for cases with unusually sever features. Normally they would just splint it. I really do not think you need to be concerned about being pushed to have unnecessary surgery for this. Bangkok Christina Hospital (Silom), St Louis Hospital (Sathorn), Camellian Hospital (Thonglor) and Mission Hospital (near Rachadamri) are all nonprofit hospitals and an ortho at any of these would be a find choice. Are you certain they are all non-profit? They are all private hospitals. I have been to Bangkok Christian and Camellian and both have been good. I believe they were all started by missionaries, and have lower costs than the big private international hospitals, but I don't know that they are non-profit?
