It might very well be, but you won't feel like you are under the eye of the gestapo awaiting a yellow/red card for a minor infraction.

Thailand always talks about how its going to be a hub for this or that. At the end of the day Thailand will only be a hub for prostitution corruption and crime. Nothing ever changes here.

The media is rubbish. Theyre doing PR for the top brass as always.

Do ya think they will be able to sell all their apartments and villas and businesses in 14 days ? 😉

At fire sale prices, no problem! Lots of buyers at 50-89% below purchase price.

I don't know who the right guy is to send down to Phuket to investigate this, but it is certainly not Anutin. He is a do-nothing politician and he spent the last decade proving that. And it would not help to get the big joke involved either as he's just a showboat.

I'm not sure what the solution is here, maybe the locals need to take things into their own hands.

Actually I think that stationing Surachat Hakporn ( Big joke) down to Phuket could be a very wise move.  He would be very motivated after the last few months of bad publicity, and he certainly goes for it when needed.
It would also create an atmosphere of worry for these criminals and maybe warn them off. It would be good to get to the bottom of who is ruling the roost down there and deport them all. They won’t be missed, my very good Thai friends there have said for years the Russians have ruined Phuket.

Those who went abroad are the liberals, the oligarchs, the gangsters and westernised Russians.

Russia, correctly, doesn't want these traitors and criminals in the society.

After deceiving millions of citizens with injections. After legalizing the sale of marijuana. Does this egg face still have a political role?

Done many Thais a favour by offering  vaccinations by Chinese vaccines.

Chinese vaccines saved many people around the world.

There's likely no police still in service from the 70s and 80s...even early 90s, when Russians ran everything....Bangkok and Pattaya were full of them. Owning the cops...disappearing people, gambling and drugs etc.

It finally took a concerted effort to get them out....but now with Ukraine.....and a stupid tourism minister, they're coming in droves...good luck this time getting them to shut them down!

People don't understand, Pattaya is now the R,and R holiday resort for Russian draft dodgers and the Russian mafia, who have always been around, but seem to have made a recovery since the war in Ukraine started, I hear there's plenty of Ukrainians around as well.

Put their visas fees up 1200 percent

Interesting. Mafia - do a study, go back to Bangkok, check things out, investigate, alleged misdoings.

Traffic problems - let's get an immediate fix on this.

Not sure why politicians in countries like Thailand (south east Asia actually), Mexico (south America, central America & Caribbean actually), even try to show up.

I remember early 70's them talking about cleaning up the government (this was Mexico) dealing with all the drug dealings etc..

50! Years later nothing! For once I would love (actually respect more) if one of these politicians just said

I hear you, I feel your pain, however this is how things are, and will be. These groups are to powerful and wealthy to stop. We will ask that they support a couple of community programs like a football field and donations to the food bank. Thank You for your understanding.

Thailand will learn the hard way about how Russians operate. Russians will make agreements to get friendship or permission, but after the honeymoon, anything goes, forget about agreements and promises. They'll find a way to void the agreements. Thailand is allowing in too many Russians. One step at a time, Russia will eventually annex Phuket, to protect their citizens, just like they did Ukraine and other countries. Russia has already setup a consulate office in Phuket to assist their citizens.

The real issue is Thai enforcement authorities who love brown envelopes and turn blind to code and law violations. Pay the right people anywhere in Thailand and you can do anything you want. Lots of Russian money coming to Thailand.

Just like in Cambodia, down in sihanoukville, Chinese casinos and hotels only let in Chinese. If you don't speak or look Chinese, you don't get in. Chinese rule sinhanoukville.

Bkk and Pattaya full of Russians in the eighties???You gotta be joking. Can't remember coming across a single one ,let alone "full of them"back then. They started coming in significant numbers in the mid to late nineties.

with the amount of black money that is obviously circulating around Phuket from all the active "mafias" it  is actually quite hard to believe that he hasn't already relocated himself there already to take his cut . So he either has enough money at the moment, or, he considers it prudent to lie low for a while until the current allegations concerning his activities have been made to disappear,

There seems to be a global trend developing, of governments inviting in unwanted immigrants, legal or otherwise  to the detriment of their respective indigenous populations. The UK is as usual leading by example.  This trend , whilst quite popular in the west  has yet to take off in middle eastern or African  countries

The problem of criminal behaviour of foreign organisations in Thailand should be handled by the Special Enforcement Section of the Thai Police in cooperation with the Anti-Terrorist Service.
In Greece we had the same problem with bodyguards in various night entertainment areas who could not be arrested because they were alerted by other police officers.
One night suddenly the Crime Suppression Department of the Greek Police started patrol with a special van.
While they were ordered by the Central Command to go to the "A" area, the Chief on the way ordered them to go to another area with the "smart nice guys" bodybuilding bodyguards.
The bodybuilding well trained Police officers got out of the car suddenly outside in the entertainment establishments and beat them in front of the crowd before handcuffing them and taking them for harsh interrogation.

The district has been quiet for 10 years now.

The foreign mafia gangs reportedly were not afraid of laws as they allegedly smuggled illicit substances to their entertainment venues and were wealthy, paying off corrupt officials to avoid legal action, said Thanakorn. He wanted to reflect on the local problems and provide insight to the Thai Prime Minister and Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, for urgent inspection.

'Thanakorn then left for Bangkok clutching a large brown envelope emblazoned with a hammer, sickle & skull logo and addressed to Mr Anutin Charnvirakul'

He is correct.

Kata / Karon has now been over taken by Russians. Restaurants, nightlife, massage shops, tourist shops, boat tours, even getting a hair cut is all now Russians. Yes they may employ the odd Thai upfront, but these businesses were run by Thai's in the past.

Putting aside the moral issue of letting Russians stay so long - they simple have to address the issue of local Thai's been hurt by their behaviour. They've also pushed rents so high, that local Thai's have had to move out.

One reason for short term visas historically was so Thai's would always have places to live and not be outpriced. In a whim it's been tossed aside.

A once beautiful paradise island has been ruined by them. Furthermore, if you want a free for all and invite the whole world to Thailand, you must make sure you have the infrustructure in place. Phuket roads are at a standstill at the moment because it cannot cope with the gates just being opened like they have over the past few months.

I often go on tripadvisor, and even though they do their best to remove any negative comments, that vast majority of complaints are against Russians and their behaviours.

You clearly haven't been to Dubai.

Sri Lanka have recently moved to suspend long term visas for Russians for this exact sort of behaviour. They were literally taking over the island.

Quite right. I spent 5 months a year through the EU winters in Kata Beach.

Everything was Thai owned at the time, 80s 90s up till after the Tsunami and there was not one Russian restaurant or business or at least I never saw one.The only foreigners were Papa Karl and son Reinhardt  who had the  popular Austrian restaurant. Otherwise the odd Frenchman or Dutch, it was a quiet community with lots of fun and everyone knew everyone and trouble was rare.Thai and foreigners together having a drink at sunset in front of the Boathouse. All finished now, the place is a mess, suffocated with tourists , mostly Russian, no infrastructure, no authority help to better it. Last year spent a month there , only to see my old friends, mostly Thai, the Germans, Italians etc have all left .Everyone fed up of what the Russians have done, the Thais were too slow in realizing what was happening. The Russians have taken over. Makes me sick.

These days you see the families arriving with their kids, hop into a school or two, and bingo, everyone has visa rights to live in Thailand. They have bought up countless cheap condos which they then rent out to their * friends* and fellow Russian  tourists , running their own taxi service , restaurants , bars , Bangla Rd Patong Gogos, Walking street Pattaya, Im starting to think that the authorities/ government are at a loss what to do now.
