Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)

What is the issue with giving them what they want? By them I am referring to Palestinians not Hamas. There is nothing extraordinary in their proposal at Camp David Summit in 2000.

They want the eradication of Israel, and death to every Jew in the world, and then they want to move on to killing Christians. Yeah, what's wrong with that?

What was their proposal at Camp David Summit in 2000?

“Hamas has been holding our hostages in Rafah, which is why our forces are operating in Rafah"

Want the war to end?
Tell Hamas to free the Hostages and surrender.

His statement contradicts Netanyahu's idea from few weeks ago.

"

Netanyahu said Israel would enter Rafah, which Israel says is Hamas’ last stronghold, regardless of whether a truce-for-hostages deal is struck. His comments appeared to be meant to appease his nationalist governing partners but it was not clear whether they would have any bearing on any emerging deal with Hamas.

“The idea that we will stop the war before achieving all of its goals is out of the question,” Netanyahu said, according to a statement from his office. “We will enter Rafah and we will eliminate Hamas’ battalions there — with or without a deal, to achieve the total victory.”

It does not contradict Netanyahu's statement.

Hamas freeing the hostages and surrendering is not the same as a truce for hostage deal. Can you really not tell the difference or are you just lying like all the other Hamas supporters?

Unfortunately, I don't see The Don changing anything after his election.

I think he'll be worse for the Palestinians. Hopefully it will all be over before he can join in the atrocities. I don't see how it can continue till January next year.

Hamas don't want to end it. Prove me wrong Hamas

‘Time for this war to end’: Biden tells Hamas to accept Israel’s hostage-ceasefire offer

Declaring that it is “time for this war to end,” US President Joe Biden gave a high-stakes speech Friday, presenting what he said was the latest Israeli proposal for a hostage deal and ceasefire to end the Israel-Hamas war, and calling on the terror group to accept the offer.

The Israeli proposal was submitted on Thursday to Hamas via Qatar, Biden revealed, saying the offer would “bring all the hostages home, ensure Israel’s security, create a better day after in Gaza without Hamas in power, and set the stage for a political settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”

Biden laid out the details of three phases, with particular emphasis on the first six-week phase, which was largely similar to the framework that was discussed in previous rounds of negotiations but included new conditions detailed by the president for the first time.

Hamas welcomed US President Joe Biden’s call on Friday for Israel and the group to agree to a three-phased hostage deal leading to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

“The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas views positively what was included in US President Joe Biden’s speech today,” the group said in a statement.

On Friday, Biden called on Israel and Hamas to accept a three-phase deal which includes the release of hostages in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the enclave, a permanent ceasefire, and an exchange of prisoners.

I think it's about time we all agree to stop putting the 2 sides accusations of the main protagonists aside and support the deal as it does appear to be some sort of progress towards a ceasefire.

Lame. 2 sides accusations? Its a fact Hamas has refused every deal so far, its a fact Hamas welcomed the ICJ ruling but ignored it and did not release the hostages.

"Hamas needs to take the deal. For months, people all over the world have called for a ceasefire. Now it’s time to raise your voices and to demand that Hasa- — Hamas come to the table, agrees to this deal, and ends this war that they began."

So Brian you're not interested in any sort of moratorium on a ceasefire where you cannot blame Hamas at every opportunity?

And yes, I know who started it on the 7/10.

The deal needs to be sorted for humanities sake and I was trying to be positive, so is it in your opinion I am wasting my time?

I was quoting the initiator of the new proposals, Biden. The deal maker.

He also said:

"Israel will always have the right to defend itself against the threats to its security and to bring those responsible for October 7th to justice. And the United States will always ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself. If Hamas fails to fulfill its commitments under the deal, Israel can resume military operations."

Yes the deal needs to be sorted, I have made dozens of posts on this already, only one group has stopped it, Hamas, that is a fact. Hence why I made clear "Hamas prove me wrong" I would love to be proved wrong and a deal happen. Hamas will never get a pass from me on this, I will always detest terrorists for what they've done.

You can stop making things up now: "so is it in your opinion I am wasting my time?"

Not making anything up, I felt I was agreeing with you that this needs sorting as it stands now, but it looks to me as if you still want to go tit for tat on the whole situation, can we agree to something along the lines of reconciliation between both sides and stop all the bickering on here?

So you agree that all those responsible for Oct 7th need to either be eliminated or surrender?

You agree that Hamas can never be a threat again to the security of Israel?

You agree it was Hamas prolonging this war for the last few months because they refused a deal?

You agree the terrorists are still holding innocent hostages and are being rewarded for their efforts?

You agree that every life taken in Gaza has been because of Hamas?

I would not support any ceasefire agreement that did not mandate the release of all hostages on the first day.

I don't think the deal if agreed will get past phase 1. Hamas would be allowed to retain the bodies of murdered hostages for years, till after the rebuilding of Gaza. A kick in the teeth for the families and Israel who only a week or so ago managed to find 7 dead bodies in tunnels. More details on it here

Hamas wants a ceasefire that costs them nothing and allows then to claim victory.

I agree, as long as those who surrender are tried and sentenced in a court of law and not summarily executed by Israel with no trial.

If that is ever a possibility, yes.

That is not for me to agree to, mainly because I will always disagree that the conduct of Israel for years has never helped the situation. You know full well I am biting my tongue on the reasons why Hamas did what they did on 7/10, I agree it is difficult for you to accept that this all started without any provocation from Israel.

4 hours ago, Bkk Brian said:

I agree they are holding hostages, including innocent civilians. As far as being rewarded goes, not so much, unless there is some arrangement with the Israeli's to agree to this ceasefire there is nothing rewarding.

Fine, not the end of the world for me, I thought if we together as 2 people as far apart as the main protagonists, Hamas/Israel could come to some sort of agreement there could be a chance of peace here and in the Middle East, obviously to much of a leap for you.

Netanyahu insists on Hamas’ 'destruction' as part of plan to end war in Gaza

Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has insisted on Hamas’s destruction and said Israel’s conditions for ending the war in Gaza remain unchanged.

It came a day after Joe Biden said Israel was offering a new roadmap towards a full ceasefire in Gaza.

The US president said Israel’s three-stage offer would begin with a six-week phase that would see Israeli forces withdraw from all populated areas of Gaza.

It would also see the “release of a number of hostages, including women, the elderly, the wounded, in exchange for (the) release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners”, Biden said.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Netanyahu described the commitment to a permanent ceasefire before Hamas military and government capacity is destroyed as a “non-starter”.

Netanyahu said:

Israel’s conditions for ending the war have not changed: the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, the freeing of all hostages and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.

Under the proposal, Israel will continue to insist these conditions are met before a permanent ceasefire is put in place. The notion that Israel will agree to a permanent ceasefire before these conditions are fulfilled is a non-starter.

A senior administration official said yesterday the four-and-a-half-page proposal had been endorsed by the Israeli government and had been presented to Hamas on Friday.

But it was unclear how enthusiastically Netanyahu had embraced the proposal, which Hamas said it had responded to “positively” (see earlier post at 08.31).

Lots of talk about this deal but there was also lots of talk on the one a few weeks ago, no hopes being built up here again for the hostage families. “A ceasefire alone won’t ease the terrible pain of Israelis whose loved ones were butchered or abducted by Hamas, or the Palestinians whose families have been shattered by the subsequent war."

Obama backs Israel-Hamas cease-fire road map: ‘It can save lives’
Biden shared an Israeli-led proposal Friday that features a three-part road map that would stop the fighting and release the remaining hostages taken by Hamas when it attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 people and kidnapping about 250.
The plan has been shared with Hamas through Qatar, he said. During his speech on Friday, Biden urged all Israeli leaders to back the road map, arguing that Hamas has been decimated to the point it could not repeat another Oct. 7 attack. He also called for global pressure on Hamas to accept the deal.

One of purposes of the Philadelphi corridor was to prevent the movement of illegal materials (including weapons and ammunition) and people between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.

The IDF now have full control to discover that's exactly what it was being used for by Hamas.

Like the prior proposal that Hamas accepted, this one is probably dead in the water because it's in netanyahu's interest to continue the conflict, and his right wing probably won't accept any agreement that leaves Gaza as an in independent territory.

At least that is what I've been reading.
