Is this new?

Nothing yet at Shopee ...

Grab added the foreign card fee in February.

Yes it's a new charge from Grab. I noticed it a few weeks ago and swiftly changed to using a local debit card instead.

I don't understand the Shopee link... Do they share the same parent company?

They also added another new fee "platform fee" of THB20 per ride. But since questioning it, they see to have stopped. Their answer was a complete word salad:

Sorry, the connection wasn't clear - even to me.  I was just comparing the same food order at Grab and Shopee and blurted out this revelation on AN ...

Don't understand their reply but unless I'm mistaken the platform fee is not new and applies only to GrabTaxi. This is Grab's fee on top of the metered fare. For other ride types the fee is wrapped up inside the fixed price that you are quoted.

It was Grab Car Premium on both occasions.

As far as I know Shopee does not accept foreign credit cards whereas Lazada does.

In fact I was told that by a Shopee CSR but one of my foreign credit cards works fine.

Thx for the info. Have had my US credit card on file with them for years. Will be removed promptly and replaced with my Thai Debit Card.
