Popular Post bob smith
if I had my time again I don't think I would have chosen here. There are many better places to live and make money, places where you arent treated with suspicion and/or a potential criminal because you are a foreigner. There are easier places to get PR or become a citizen, Thailand makes this extraordinarily difficult for the average farang, and they know it! it's like them dangling a sweet carrot in front of our noses and they enjoy watching us suffer.. this whole 90 day reporting I find completely ridiculous, it's like they want to exert an almost sadistic control over us to make sure we are behaving as they want us to. It's very authoritarian when you actually look at it from an objective standpoint. when you are in it you kinda get used to it, but from an outsider looking in it does seem rather onerous. but on the whole I go with the old 70/30 rule. it was 70% good and 30% bad. sadly the 30% was quite pronounced and Thailand has given me scars that may never heal. I only hope that I don't take that resentment with me to my next destination. and if there is a Thai sitting next to me on the plane, well, he/she is going to have a very memorable journey! bob. I have been here for decades mate. The honeymoon period lasted 2 years for me. Then I met mrs. smith so I decided to stay even longer. had I not met her I probably would have moved on long ago. but I have now come to the end of my tether, my flights are booked and I am taking a positive step in the right direction (i think). I am sick of being treated less than human by the system and Thais in general. enough is enough. bob. Edited March 27 by bob smith 3

Popular Post sirineou
If you came here to make money, you had not researched the place enough before you came. I understand your frustration, but most of the things you mentioned were always the case here. I have been lucky enough to have many options of where to live, Hold a US passport and a couple of years ago got a Greek passport , consequently having many options. So far, Thailand has been my better option . Sure there are many negatives, but for me the positives outweigh the negatives. That does not mean that things could not change , and move the scales on the other direction. This new tax thing might be the tipping point. but I don't think so. The next couple of years will tell. 1

Popular Post fredwiggy
I don't blame him, as I'm leaving as soon as I can get re-established back in Texas with my daughter. Thailand isn't a bad place but some people and things have made it unlivable. It's definitely not a good place for women or girls and this is one major reason I'll leave. Some seem to love it and if that's the truth, you can't take that away from them. It has to change a lot of things here before more move out, because America doesn't look at Thais like Thais look at Americans. There they fit in just like everyone else. As long as you don't break any laws, you're accepted, with the exception of a few prejudiced idiots that hate Asians. Not the same here at all. The beaches are beautiful, as long as they stop ruining them. The country is as boring as a place can be unless you are happy sitting around, mostly inside, and partying. The bugs are the worse I've ever seen, and I've been to Canada at ice out, so I know all about mosquitoes and black flies. The women are among the most beautiful on earth, but unlike western countries, where the women are more independent, you are looked at as an ATM by most. The food is great, but you can get great Thai most anywhere, and farang food you have to travel for unless you're in a big city. The women can be a good partner, IF she looks at you as a provider and not an ATM dishing out endless cash and gold to impress her "friends", of which most really don't have except to brag to and talk about behind their backs. Some of the locals here are okay with us, but many are not, and that's not a good thing to live around. I have had dogs and cats poisoned here by disturbed farmers that don't like my ex's family, or are somehow jealous for some strange reason I've never gave them. Some steal from my property when I'm not home, and that's not cool. I don't care if they ask for things because I know most are just getting by, by being sneaky shows a lack of respect for your neighbors. I would be out of here tomorrow if I had the means, as my daughter has to be in school in an English environment before she is 10 so she can adjust to the curriculum. Starting all over back home won't be easy, but it will be worth it. Good luck to you Bob if you're really leaving, as I understand what it's like to be in a place you don't feel comfortable and where you can't be yourself and enjoy your hobbies. No place like home. 2 3 1 4 2

No place like home. great post mate! I really appreciate your input. Many here think I am a troll. That couldn't be further from the truth. I am just a very disgruntled expat that has been in Thailand way too long and is ready for a new challenge. I am not going home, I am moving on to (hopefully) greener pastures. Only time will tell if that is the case, but one thing is for sure - I have given Thailand my best shot and now it is someone else's turn... I am cashing in my chips, taking my money and running off into the sunset. bob. Edited March 27 by bob smith 3 1 1
