webfact Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Thailand's Deputy Transport Minister, Surapong Piyachote, has called for an immediate enquiry following an incident where three passengers were trapped in a lift for over an hour at a BTS Skytrain station. The troubling situation occurred yesterday between the ticketing floor and street level at a station en route to Kheha. Post the incident, which began around 5.20pm and ended at 6.19pm, Kone, the lift maintenance company, inspected and repaired the lift. Director-General of the Department of Rail Transport (DRT), Pichet Kunathammarak, has been tasked to work with the operator, Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTSC), to investigate the malfunction. The CCTV footage confirmed that the passengers were trapped for an hour, following which they received medical attention. The DRT called for stricter supervision of service providers, ongoing training for station staff, and frequent emergency drills. More staff will be on standby at different locations for swift action. The BTSC has been directed to expedite compensation for the affected passengers. Authorities were alerted about the trapped passengers at 5.21pm, and Kone technicians successfully rescued them by 6.19pm. The lift was then closed for investigation and repair. The incident led to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (project owner) and BTSC (BTS operator) escalating staff training and emergency response drills. The incident has also resulted in improved coordination with Kone, to ensure faster responses to any future problems. BTS. Classic Ray Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Don’t the Fire Brigade have training and equipment to rescue people from lifts like they do in Western countries?

Popular Post mrmicbkktxl Posted April 29, 2024 Popular Post Posted April 29, 2024 I guess the aircon was still working but what if not? Those 3 perons would probably have died with 40C outside and 50C or more inside the lift. Very scary 1 2

Tubulat Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Kone? That's a reputable company, right? I would expect it to have an emergency button in every lift. And yes, there must be a service behind it that responds immediatly. 2
BusNo8 Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Lift is for handicapped and elderly. All I see using it are the fat, lazy and entitled. Dead serious, have a look. 1 2 1
Gottfrid Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Investigation. For what? They are out and all is good. Only took 1 hour. 1
Purdey Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 In this heat the incident could have led to some dead passengers. Lucky they were rescued in time

freeworld Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Notice that many of the young healthy looking people get dropped at the BTS and then head for the elevator to wait in a queue to go up or down. Cant walk a few steps and take the stairs or walk over to the escalator. Very rarely see the aged or infirm using the elevators.
NativeBob Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 depends on what nationality and gender were entrapped. 1

Don't have these kinds of people sitting around all day waiting for something to happen in every location. What they should do is stop all the young healthy people from using the elevators. 1
