The ongoing drought in Thailand’s Buriram province has resulted in a severe water shortage, forcing about 300 households across three villages in the Mueang district to buy water. The crisis is due to the drying up of groundwater sources, which the villages have traditionally relied on, as they don't have access to local water pipelines.

The villages of old and new Ban Nong Makhuea, and Ban Nong Hua Ling, despite being near the Huai Jorakhe Mak reservoir which serves the Mueang district, have no direct access to its water. They typically use a combination of groundwater and rainwater, however, this year's intense drought has drained the groundwater reserves.

Locals, like health volunteer Somyin Lubram, have repeatedly appealed to have their areas connected to the local water pipeline. Work on the pipeline started four years ago but has remained incomplete to date.

In response, residents are urging the government to finish the project so that they can have tap water like other neighbouring communities.

In a piece of promising news, Krittana Urairam, the head of Ban Nong Hua Ling village, revealed that the tambon Sakaeprong administration has secured funds to complete the water system installation, anticipating work to resume soon.

The imminent onset of Thailand's rainy season, projected to begin in the last week of May according to the Meteorological Department, may also aid in relieving the water scarcity, although it is expected to start two weeks later than usual this year.

I have my suspicions that, although funding was made available four years ago, by the time the company started work there were insufficient funds available to complete.

To describe the situation wouldn't change anything.

How about plans to secure water supply everywhere in Thailand?

Or find alternatives to rice growing or similar water swallowing crops?

No plan? No money? No future?😶

Pop round to the governors house and ask to use their bathroom.

Failure to rain at a convenient moment to offset a localized deficiency of water in a village duck pond that has been used  to supply sludge instead of the clean water funding has been  provided for is actually a very valid reason to call for accountability.

How sad  would it be to  learn the village population that has been disenfranchised also considers Thaksin as a saviour despite the fact that in almost inevitable reality it his henchmen in waiting who have long since eaten the funding for upgraded household water reticulation.

The wheel turns to the flat spot so quickly !

where is the 'magical' rain making planes when you need them ?

oh you mean it only works when it is about to rain without intervention

You might have written that in jest, but also happens to be true.
