Mid November last, I packed a mobile phone, battery separately but in the same package, to send to the UK. I was asked the contents and said a phone. Cannot send with battery, she said. I said, no battery. Then I get, no telephone number, cannot send with no phone number. I tried to explain that the house number, post code and UK, would get it to the correct address. Insists must have phone number. I couldn't remember the number, so wrote eleven random numbers. Settled that little problem at a cost of 1300b.
Only in Thailand.
The top notch private hospital I patronise always reduces my billing to that of Thai nationals prices consequently due to my wife being a Thai. Quoted 480K for a major surgery once. Total billing came in at 320K with a 30K discount (insurance refuse to pay for the pre-surgery checks and treatment. Wife claimed to note something written about Thai wife on the pre-billing! Been going there ever since even so it's quite a distance from where we live.
Phnom Penh was the best kept secret in South East Asia in the early 2000's.
It was a wild 24-hour party town, bars with young, pretty and non-pushy staff, cheap as chips, loads of cool places to drink and eat at all hours.
Sharkys, Pickled Parrot on 104, 1Zero4, Colonial Bar, Zanzibar, Rose Bar, Zapatas, Walkabout, Howies, Shanghai, White Cobra, Heart of Darkness, Candy Bar, etc
Great memories but changed days now, unfortunately.
It is not as ridiculous as it sounds.
It is called burying the bad news under the good news/busy news day!
Many governments/organisations do it regularly!
