Some Like it Hot

Recommended Posts

With the return of Chinese tourists to Pattaya there are a huge number of new Chinese restaurants, including Sichuan restaurants. If you like spicy, this is cuisine to try!

Chinese will only spend in venues owned by their own people who send back the money to the family in China through various underground methods of money laundering. That is a main chinese speciality.

I’m a westerner, and I can’t read Chinese so I don’t know if there was some secret phrase scrawled on the sign that let Chinese people know that all the money would be sent back to China. I just like Chinese food.

That looks nice, which restaurant in Pattaya did you take that photo?

Fu Man Lo Chinese restaurant next to soi 6/1.

I did have to explain that I wanted it as spicy as it would normally be.

Not true at all.  Chinese tourists will eat anywhere they get good food.  They may favor Chinese owned restaurants because they have menus in Chinese and not in Thainese.  And those restaurants know how to make the food like "back home", and not some Thai adaptation of Chinese food.  But that's no different from Brits preferring English menus and recognizable British food.

They'll eat at other restaurants, and often fill Japanese places.  I'm hopping on a plane tomorrow to China, my 14th monthly trip in a row, after living and working in China on and off since 1999.  Probably 50-60 R/T flights in total from BKK to China over the past 10+ years.  Here's another shattered myth.  They'll be loaded up with stuff they bought in Thai owned shops, with a lot of that stuff being luxury goodies.  And more and more of them are independent travelers, after one or 2 flag lady tours, to learn the area.

Anything to back that up other than repetitive claims by anonymous posters right here on AN?

"Some Like it Hot"

Yes, but the chicken with cashew nuts (at least that is what I think it is) in the picture is not hot. Those chilies are harmless.

It’s sichuan chicken, and it also had sichuan chilis.

There are different levels of spicy.

I've yet to find a real burner of a curry, whereas chilli dishes can get up there damn quickly.

I love curries but are yet to get to India (Goa in particular).  Thai curries are ok  in their own right but I prefer Thai chilli.

A good vindaloo is great with beer!

That's Szechuan (Sichuan) chicken, and is a spicy stir-fried dish that is popular in the Sichuan province in China.

Not your boring Thai chicken & cashews
