Thailand Passes Landmark Same-Sex Marriage Law

18 June marks a historic day for Thailand as the country's Senate overwhelmingly approves a same-sex marriage bill, making it the first nation in Southeast Asia to recognise same-sex unions. The bill passed with an overwhelming majority vote of 130 to 4, with 18 abstentions.

Court Finds Adultery Law Unconstitutional

The Constitutional Court has unanimously declared that the law permitting spouses to claim damages for adultery is against the Constitution. The decision involves Section 1523, paragraph two, of the Civil and Commercial Code. This provision lets a husband seek compensation from a man engaging with his wife, whereas a wife can sue a woman openly having an affair with her husband.

A Thai man was severely injured after being attacked on the evening of June 18th, 2024, near Pattaya, allegedly for teasing an older man about his age. The assault took place near Wat Huai Yai, in the Banglamung district of Chonburi province. The local police and rescue teams were alerted to the incident at 9.36 PM and quickly arrived on the scene.
