The Election Commission (EC) is keeping a close eye on the final phase of today's Senate election, warning candidates that any rule violations will result in severe punishments. Out of an initial 45,000 applicants, 2,995 candidates passed through the demanding selection process. Today, they're vying for 200 Senate seats in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi province. The successful candidates will be announced on July 2.

Recently, the EC has been checking hotels where candidates have been staying to enforce election laws and prevent illicit practices like vote buying.

If candidates are caught breaking election rules, the EC is ready to thoroughly investigate and possibly hand over cases to the Supreme Court for more proceedings. These violations could lead to disqualification, loss of election rights, and even perpetual bans from participating in elections.

The Senate election operates in three steps, starting at the district level. Here, candidates compete within their particular profession groups. After several rounds of within-group and between-group selections at district and provincial levels, today's national stage will finalize the election of Senate representatives.
