I think a certain kind of respect should be accorded to Alina Habba. She's a lawyer who, through her demonstrable past incompetence, has actually managed to further blacken the reputation of her profession.

Sentencing has to be done now but can be appealed. Following your reasoning he shouldn't be sent to jail because he is a presidential nominee.

Lewinsky was not a prostitute.

 

The whole stained dress and denial of having sex was tacky and unconvincing, but: Clinton did not "pay her off" using money donated for his election campaign. Neither did he comprehensively " cook the books" and lie about having done so. 34 times!

The judge, Juan M. Merchan, may ultimately find no basis to overturn the jury’s verdict, but the delay was a surprising turn of events in a case that had led to the first conviction of an American president. With the election on the horizon, the sentencing might be the only moment of criminal accountability for the twice-impeached and four-time-indicted former president whose other cases are mired in delay.
