Not obvious to me that it's bad. If he gingers things up, keeps everyone on their toes, forces people to actually switch on their brain & think occasionally ... Can that be bad in a feudal society obsessed with status & hierarchy?

You're right about status and hierarchy but I'm not sure he's against that, so long as he's at or near the top so it benefits him.

Besides if people switched on their brains they would probably stop listening to him.

Simply nauseating that this convicted felon who even admitted his crimes and promised to repent to qualify for a Royal pardon is now openly running the country after his party lost the election while still on probation and on bail for his Lese Majeste offence.  This all after spending his hugely reduced prison sentence in a luxury hospital suite (or at home) pretending to be ill, while other prisoners were enduring inhumane conditions and dying in the slammer. Just goes to prove that everything is for sale in Thailand - justice, election results - you name it. It's hardly surprising that the economy is in the toilet with the only plan to revive it is a ruinous cash hand out scam that will try to borrow huge amounts in the local bond market and crowd out the private sector's access to funding and sending his tame cheshire cat around the world selling land bridges and other ludicrous projects that no one is interested in.

And if you don't have the money or you don't want to spend it, and you are a general, you simply commit treason, make a military coup and steal the whole country including the judiciary who are then under your control.

Then you can have anybody you want, charged with any crime you want, knowing that they will be found guilty anyway and have them jailed for as long as you want.

What is the penalty for treason in Thailand?

Ruining the country for 9 years, selecting  your own mates to be senators, tearing up the constitution and getting it written the way that you want, even granting the senators the power to select the PM (you naturally), jailing people who dare to speak out against you, twisting the law to hold them without bail, then losing an election and promotion to the Privy Council.

There is no punishment for running a military coup in Thailand.

There are even people on this forum, who believe that another military coup would be the best thing that could happen for Thailand.

Not forgetting to mention the yellow shirts and the rabid ultra royalists in the Thai population, many of whom believe the same thing.

why is he not banned for life of politics?

The same could be said of anybody in the military who starts a military coup. IMHO they should be sent for trial and executed if they are guilty of treason.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coup_d'état#:~:text=A coup d'état (%2F,to unseat an incumbent leadership.

A coup d'état (/ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/ ⓘ; French: [ku deta]; lit. 'stroke of state'),[1] or simply a coup, is typically an illegal and overt attempt by a military organization or other government elites to unseat an incumbent leadership.

There is a lot more information in the link.
